Last night, a college student walked into my class and enthusiastically said “Congratulations!” I smiled, paused (thinking very hard – what did I do?), then said, “What for?” The student paused at my reaction and carefully said, “We heard…you’re engaged…Coach told us.” I laughed and made light of it by just saying, “Not quite yet – but I appreciate the pre-congratulations!” After teaching, I analyzed every way the coach (who happens to be a neighbor) might know something I don’t know…then I chalked it up to the crazy way rumors travel in small towns. At least it gave me a small tease of what it’s like to reach the engagement milestone (though I know the real thing will be far better)!

Based on this post… and one of your others = http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/awkward-waiting-weekend-family-involved
I am guessing that the ring is in your Fiance’s hands now… and other people are beginning to know / hear about it (example… picks it up at Post Office / UPS or the Jewellery Store… and someone saw)
Small towns… both a blessing and a pain.
Good thing you had an inkling that this was in the works, or that College Student would have really messed up an important surprise moment in your life.

It was probably a good thing I had to focus on teaching class right away! I know the student meant well, so I just took it as a compliment and chalked the rumor up to small town talk (since I’ve also been asked many times, “Are you engaged yet?!”). Glad to know others analyze like I do!
