I actually think they are closer with this one, but I think that it needs to be a little more fitted around where your thighs would be. I think it's still too A-line-ish around that area and if it's a wee more fitted from the thigh to the knee that's what creates more of the mermaid flair.
The dress looks fine - but it doesn't look quite like a mermaid dress.. If you're wanting more mermaid, it needs to come in more a little lower so it doesn't flow out so much...and also, maybe the bottom is slightly poofier than you're wanting?
There's a huge difference in how a dress lays on an airbrushed model, a mannequin and a real person. The dress on the mannequin is an A-line and the models are wearing mermaid dresses, which are two completely different cuts. That is fixed with stitching, not by adding a crinoline underneath to make it flare out at the knees. Have you tried it on at all to see how it fits on you?
Also, I would do a search to see if you can find any real brides wearing this dress. if you find any photos where they are standing up send them to Milly's. That would probably help a lot since they are trying to create the dress from a photo where she is sitting down.
I definitely think the new test dress looks WAY better than it did! I agree that maybe tighter in the thighs?
I found this one in the classifieds: http://pics.classifieds.weddingbee.com/10046.1.jpg
I think it needs to come in more fitted at the knee.
I'm not trying to necessarily replicate the Alvina Valenta 9662 exactly, I just want a nice mermaid shape :) I think you're all right that it needs to be more fitted in the thighs.
Thanks!!!
I love mermaid gowns, and am wearing one as well. I think the second version is much better...but it looks to me that it needs to be more fitted through the hips to the knee.
is it possible for u to try it on and have them pin it in where u want to do alterations? i agree it will look different when its on you. but it definitely looks like it needs to be alot slimmer fitting from your hips to just about at your knee to give you that mermaid look. i think there is enough material to give you the flare at the bottom, it doesnt look like it needs anything added to the bottom. but i think it would be helpful if you could try the dress on and have them pin it up where u want it to give you more of the flare. because the manequin doesnt have knees and you do so u want to make sure it flares out where it should!! good luck, it will be beautiful!
I'm glad you found your answer, but I still wanted to comment! :)
I actually think it looks really pretty!! The shape is lovely... its more of a bell shape though & I know thats not what you're looking for, but its still nice!

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I posted a few days ago with my test dress from Milly Bridal (picture #1), based off my inspiration dress, the Alvina Valenta 9662 (picture #2). One of the main things I asked was to change the silhouette to more of a mermaid and less A-line. I sent them picture #3 as a guideline. But now, with test dress version 2.0 (picture #4), something about the silhouette just looks OFF, and I can't figure out what it is! Does the bottom need to be poofier? Is it hitting the wrong spot?
If you can figure it out, I'd love your input!!! Thanks
