Oh my goodness they are both beautiful and a perfect blue. I think you should get the one that you want most. Your wedding set is amazing too…you are very lucky!!! Congrats!

@fiona8718:  OMG I love the first one!! I much prefer the oval shape to the more rectangular shape on your hand, and although it is large, I don’t think it will take away from your wedding set. I never really considered tanzanite before, but you’re totally right that color is to die for! I think tanzanite is pretty soft, it’s around a 7 on the Mohs scale, which is not ideal for daily use but i doubt you’d want to wear something so substantial every day anyway.

@fiona8718:  It comes from Tanzania, its natural colour is like a pinky brown and has to be heated to get that colour blue, it is a pretty soft stone so you will have to be careful with it 6.5 MOH it is softer than a citrine/amethyst, I know that it has been only around since the 60’s I think.

This info I just got off line and some I knew from the discovery channel lol…hope it helps

@fiona8718:  That is REALLY beautiful! I just want to warn you though on the softness of this stone – I have a small stoned tanzanite ring, and I VERY EASILY have already put a large scratch right through the middle that is quite visible. I barely bumped it on the corner of my dresser : If you arent 100% set on tanzanite, and you are looking for something you can pass down, you might choose something that is a bit more durable.

@fiona8718:  My vote is for a sapphire. I loooove sapphires. Could you get a smaller sapphire instead so that it wouldn’t be too expensive?

@fiona8718:  Congrats! I prefer the 1st Tanzanite ring you post. I also received a Tanzanite stone for my wedding and I had always thought it was a blue sapphire until I had it set. If you don’t mind I’d like to share mine:

I would get a sapphire or tanzanite necklace and wear it as my something blue. It wouldn’t matter then if you choose tanzanite as it is much less likely to get scratched compared to a ring.

@fiona8718:  I’m not sure about polishing the scratches, mine definitely cannot be fixed, whether its because it’s too deep or just that it can’t be regardless, I’m not sure. Mine is also purple, not blue.

I can’t speak to the price as mine was a gift, and much much smaller than the one you are looking at 😉
