I wasn’t sure how many responses this would get under just “military”…so I’m putting it out there for anyone who has spent a bit of time away from their SO. 🙂
My DH and I were talking last night about how much our dog eats. He was telling his friends that he eats 4 cups of food a day. I said, “Thank God…it used to be 8-10 cups!” DH doesn’t remember this stage of growing…he was deployed for a little over three months while our malamute went through the “puppy stages.” That means I got all the teething, chewing, potty training, and….GROWING! When DH returned from deployment, he actually debated with me that “this CAN’T be our dog!!!” He was so shocked by the changes in just that short time:
It just made me laugh! For anyone who knows about Pokemon, DH kept saying he had a “pichu” when he left…and it skipped “Pikachu” stage and evolved right into a Raichu!!
What is one of the biggest changes that came about during YOUR time between seeing each other? New cars? New tattoos? New hairstyles/colors? New pets? Children at different stages of developement? What was your SO’s reaction?

@MissBoPeep: LOL…thanks!! He’s a giant booger, but I love him to pieces!! He even fits into my DH’s clothes now:

Haha that’s so funny that he fits in his clothes! I want a malamute now. I’ll add that to my list of dogs I want someday. 🙂

Oh my gosh. I <3 your dog.
I showed FI and he asked if the dog recognized your husband when he got back?

My fiance is a pilot, not military though. Once he had to work for five straight weeks out of state. We had just adopted a kitten, and that kitten grew a lot in five weeks! He couldn’t believe how much of a cat he was when he returned. 🙂 The look on his face was classic.
I love the t-shirt picture of your pup!!!

@MapleMoose: LOL…yep!! Nanuk instantly recognized his “dad”. I had to prepare DH when he walked in the door before I showed him the dog….
Me: “He’s a LITTLE bigger than you might think now.”
Nanuk: “WooooOOOOOOOOOooooooo” (giant wolf howl coming from the bedroom after he heard DH’s voice)
DH: “What the HECK was that SOUND?!?!”
At that point, I opened the bedroom door and DH was completely pounced by Nanuk…It was a VERY HAPPY reunion!!!!
@PilotsGirl56: Isn’t it so funny how quickly animals grow up and change?? I bet your finace’s face was priceless!!!! 🙂

DH was away from home for military training for 9 months. When he came home, we were driving to a place he used to work… and he got lost… it was funny, but also kind of sad.
He also came home to a new Target and bank, and the whole town looked different. He got incredibly confused when I told him to meet me at Target. He had no idea it even existed, and I forgot it hadn’t existed when he left.

@subbywife11: Awww….my hubby had the same problems! “There’s a YMCA on our road now?!?” It was also funny tyring to fill him in on other things that happened while he was away (he always misses everything huge while he’s out to sea…submarine too).
“Michael Jackson died?”
“Who won the Super Bowl?”
“I just heard this NEW SONG on the radio…listen!!” “Hun, that’s been out for months and is overplayed…”
Talk about being cut off from the world!! It’s always so funny seeing his face!

@mrs_pugetsound: Yup… it’s really funny for awhile, then it gets a bit sad. That’s how it was when DH left bootcamp.
“There was an EARTHQUAKE on the East Coast??”
“Casey Anthony was found INNOCENT??”
“Who is Anthony Weiner?”
He didn’t know about any of that. It’s so weird realizing how cut off from the world they are at times…. I wasn’t all that great about keeping him up to date on news. It was pointless. By the time I would tell him about it, he would get the letter two weeks later. After reading it and writing me back, a whole month had passed and the story had totally changed by then. Never mind… tell ya in a few weeks!
