Awwww. You are sooo lucky. You will cherish that I bet. Well ... my fmil gave me a precious heirloom rosary and I adore it. So I guess that could be my something old ... haven't gotten to that step yet though!
Awww, that's SO sweet! My something olds are both items I've had since birth -- a handkerchief from my aunt and a pin from my mother.
Awwww, that's so cute. I'm not sure whether it will be my something old or something borrowed, but after my dad passed away my mom had their wedding rings melted down and made into a heart-shaped brooch. I am going to fasten the brooch to my bouquet.
okay so i teared up reading that, that's so friggin' cool!
that's amazing! I am definitely envious! Personally, I think it would be the highlight of the whole engagement for me (even though its not even over) other than of course that initial "will you marry me" part lol
Congratulations on your engagement !Your grandmother sounds so sweet! My "something old" were my grandmother's pearls.
Thanks gals!
It's interesting how some people are really into the traditions and some people shun it. Personally, I love them! Can't wait to figure out the other "somethings" I'll have!
Yay, so happy to read something happy here! :) That's SUPER sweet!
That is really great! My mom gave me her veil to wear on my wedding day, its sooo beautiful. Mantilla elbow length. She has pictures of her getting married in it, and now I will have pictures of me getting married in it! I am so excited!
I don't know what my other somethings are going to be!!
This is great! Especially to remind us how happy everyone is for our engagements!
My something old was my dress...it was my mom's.
You have an awesome Gran! I don't really have a "something old" at this point, but I'm sure as the wedding draws nearer I'll find something.
The ring that my grandfather gave my mother when they first came to America in 1952 (she had a matching watch as well, but she was buried with that on). I'm going to take the ring and sew it on the inside of the dress, close to my heart.
This story has warmed my cockles :-) what a lovely gesture.
I'm not sure what my something old is going to be yet, but I'm thinking of asking my Nan if she has anything she would like me to wear or have on the day.
That is so sweet!! My something old is my e-ring. It was my grandmothers. Something new is my dress, I bought these cute little decals that go on the bottom of my shoes that are blue and say "i do", and I have to figure out the something borrowed piece...hmmm.
That is so special and sweet! My "something old" was a hankerchief that had belonged to my late grandfather. It was embroidered with "#1 Grandpa" which I thought was really sweet. My mom gave it to me on the week before the wedding, which totally made me cry.
Awe so sweet! My mom gave me her great grandmothers handkerchief when I was ten and told me it would be my something old! I have cherished it for 16 years and next year it will be!
Reading this endearing post just reminded me of how warm and sentimental I felt wearing my Grandmother's wedding veil on my wedding day. I absolutely LOVE that I got to wear my grandmother's wedding veil (that her mother made for her) and I have pictures with her on my wedding day because she is still with us. She loved it and so did I.
Treasure these moments...they are few and far between!
My something old was a handkerchief that my maternal grandmother gave to my mom when she got married. I also carried the purse that her father brought her from Japan and she carried on her wedding day (though only had it at the reception).
That is the sweetest thing!! I hope to find something as meaningful as that for my something old.
How thoughtful of her! I hope I find something so sentimental for my something old. :)
*Sigh*
Awesome.
And good question....I don't know! I've read that it's supposed to be borrowed from someone who is happily married and then returned, so I'm treating it as a way to get especially close to the women in my life who are happily married, and hopefully having them share their secrets!
I would love to have a "something" from my grandmother, she passed away in January. It would mean alot to me.
And MissHelen, you're thinking of something borrowed. :) That comes from someone married :)
how sweet!!!!! my "old" was earrings and a necklace my dad got my mom about 30 years ago when they first started dating. You can wrap your hanky aruond your flowers--i did that with mine and they were so sweet =]
love this thread!!!
I wish I had an existing dress/veil- My grandmother still has her dress, but she was a size 2. I'm basically a size 10 times 2, so that won't work! LOL
My something old will the charm my Grandfather Louis gave to my grand mother on thier 30th anniversary -- My grandmother pased away the year I turned 30 -- it just so happens that my finace is also Louis and our wedding day is 10-10-10 it all adds up to 30.
My something old is my engagement ring. It was my great grandmother's. My mother gave it to my fiance and I after we had been dating only about 6 weeks and told us if we wanted to use it as an engagement ring someday we could...apparently she knew we were going to get married before we were sure LOL When we did decide to get married we couldn't afford a new ring so my fiance got it resized and all shined up for me :o)
I love it! How incredibly sweet and thoughtful! I am not sure what my Something Old will be, I haven't thought thus so far. But I loved this post!

So, I got engaged three weeks ago. I come home today to find a card in the mail from my grandmother. When I opened it, a beautiful, very old lace handkerchief fell out. My grandmother wrote a note saying that 62 years ago, the handkerchief was her "something new" and now, it can be my "something old". I freakin' BURST into tears at how sweet and sentimental that is!! I've had a challenging past few months so to be reminded of how many people this engagement has made happy, it's just wonderful. I have to remember that I am surrounded by blessings all around me - and every woman on this board is too - we found the men/women of our dreams - and we're getting married!
What is your "something old" going to be?
