@hamobride:  It the last often forgotton part of the poem.

Its meant to be given to the bride by her father to be put in her left shoe to symbolise good health and wealth for the couple. Mine are only silver tone as they are QEII and are from my grandparents wedding years. I have’t decided which one I will use.

I have two to choose from that were my paternal grandfather’s (via Dad), he kept them back in the 70s with alot of other old currency after the UK switched to decimal currency.

I imagine it’s trickier for anyone trying to do this not in the UK/commonwealth country. But I have heard of other s using a penny or another similar sized coin.

I haven’t decided on old and borrowed yet. Our main colour is navy so I have no shortage of blue; flowers, shoes underwear, iolite pendant and most of what I am wearing will be new.

new- my shoes, dress, jewelry (with the exception of my necklace)

Old – My opal and diamond earrings and necklace that my grandma gave me on my 16th birthday. She received them on her 16th birthday (:

    New – My dress

Borrowed – A hankerchief that I can wrap around my bouquet for when I cry during the ceremony, because I know there’s a 99% chance that’ll happen.

Blue – My garter has a pretty light blue bow

I also received a penny with a heart and the word ‘lucky’ engraved on it from the Etsy shop who made our custom cake server, so I’ll be carrying that with me as well. I’m getting married barefoot, so I’ll have to figure out another place for it aha.

It is interesting how the sixpence is forgotten.  I am constantly surprised with the amount of new brides that don’t even know any portion of it!  It is such a lovely tradition and hope it never gets forgotten.

    Something old,
    something new,
    something borrowed,
    something blue,
and a silver sixpence in her shoe.

I couldn’t put a penny in my shoe, as I’m allergic to all kinds of metals and they were open sndals, but I did the rest!

Old- I wore a beautiful old necklace that my Grandma has had since she was young. Actually, it was borrowed and blue too, but I didn’t count it for those.

New- My dress, my undergarments, my shoes etc.

Borrowed- a spakly, pretty hair comb from a friend.

Blue- Earrings that my mom and Grandma found that matched the necklace.
