None of my BMs are particularly wealthy, two are flying across the country for the wedding, and two are rather overweight. So in keeping price and fitting in mind, I was looking at these dresses: https://shop.thehungersite.com/store/item.do?siteId=220&itemId=31907 (Probably in "Olive")

Because of the overweight girls, and to dress them up a bit, I'd like to get/make some sort of tie-around sash or something to go around the waist. I looked at scarves but none seemed to be long enough. And I'm not a seamstress by any stretch, so I'm not sure where to start. Any help or ideas?

Have you thought about adding a fabric flower? Like the same kind of flower a lot of brides use in their hair? I know DB has them, but I found several on ETSY

That's a nice dress and a cool concept, I would suggest a grograin ribbon belt in a contrasting color. You could add beads or flowers to the ribbon to dress it up if you want. However, you mention overweight BMS, even though it goes up to XL, that dress does not look very forgiving. I'm wearing a similar jersey multiway dress in an upcoming wedding and after a test of the different sizes (S, M, L) we all ordered a size large, even the BM who wears a size 4!

The price is right...but as far as being overweight, those dresses are going to be tough to pull off.

Maybe try a department store. Due to the fact that this is a pretty casual look - why not try Kohl's even?

If you are set on the dress, I would try grosgrain ribbon. Satin would be too shiny, grosgrain would have an organic feel to it.

What about these sashes from Ann Taylor?
