@whitums:  It’s really tough to say – I’d recommend taking a FRER and going to see your doctor.. Sorry you’re freaking out! 🙁 Hope you get it figured out soon..

@whitums:  I would think it’s either (1) your period coming early, (2) implantation bleeding and you ovulated earlier than you think, (3) early miscarriage (chemical pregnancy).  Possibly ovulation but I didn’t think that normally caused heavy bleeding?  PCOS can cause abnormal bleeding I think.  There are some other less common causes too I think like infections.  I would wait a 5 days and take a pregnancy test.

Drinking at this stage is not going to cause a miscarriage.  Most miscarriages are caused by chromosomal abnormalities or medical issues and are completely outside of your control/actions.

I had heavier than normal implantation bleeding and I thought it was my period.  It seemed like a normal period to me with more cramping.  I didn’t have any clots (I didn’t normally either).  Mine was close enough to when I normally get my period that I didn’t think anything of it.  But I didn’t have long cycles.  FWIW I drank a lot while the little blastocyst was probably travelling down to implant and even afterwards (since I didn’t realize I was pregnant until much later) and everything is fine.  LOTS of women drink before they find out, it shouldn’t affect anything.

@whitums:  It could be implantation bleeding.  Mine was heavier than normal (most people only get light spotting if they get anything) but it was still pretty light.  I was on BCP and that was the first month I was off, so I was used to having periods that lasted around 3 days and were pretty light.  So that’s what my implantation bleeding was like, which is why I thought it was my period.  I had more cramps than normal but I figured that was because I was off BCP.  Implantation can definitely cause cramping, but it doesn’t always.  It’s really hard to tell!

You won’t start producing hcg until after implantation and it can takes days for enough of it to show up to turn a pregnancy test positive, so that’s why I’d wait a little bit and then take one.  I’m sure by the end of the week you would know.  After that I would maybe call your Dr. if you’re still concerned.

@whitums:  I had something quite similar, we’d been trying for 2 months. My cycle was about 26-31 days. One month I started having light spotting on day 19. I was confused but thought there was a chance it was implantation bleeding. It turned brighter red the next day and lasted a couple days, like a much lighter period. It freaked me out and upset me, I didn’t know what to think. I tested, negative. My “real” period came basically on time, at day 32. I asked my gynecologist about it and she said not to worry, it was probably just some heavy spotting/weird cycle and if it happened again she’d run some tests. Two cycles later I got pregnant so it wasn’t an issue!

Honestly, it could be so many things! Could be ovulation spotting, implantation spotting, could be a random short cycle. I’ve read that women with long cycles are sometimes prone to spotting if the endometrium builds up too much – your body will just shed some of the excess. Could be a polyp, a hormonal fluctuation… Seems unlikely that it could be a miscarriage without cramping, though. (But if it was, please know that nothing you did caused it. Getting hammered won’t cause a miscarriage, honestly.) Good luck… I hope you get an answer soon!
