I am having such a difficult time choosing a song for the father/daughter dance at my wedding (9 and a half weeks to go!!)…
At the moment my shortlist is: What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong The Horses by Daryl Braithwaite (A little cheesy I know but it’s a song I remember my father singing to me as a little girl) I’ll be Seeing You by Billie Holiday
I would appreciate any feedback or suggestions for other songs… it will really help the desicion making process!!
Have you talked to your dad about it? I totally didn’t think my dad would care all that much, but I emailed him a list of songs I liked. He and my mom looked at the list, listened to the songs and did a search of their own. He picked out I Loved Her First by Heartland. I NEVER thought I would dance to a country song at my wedding (not a huge fan) but he liked the tempo and felt it was danceable. I was just impressed my dad had an opinion about something having to do with my wedding to I said OK. It really is a nice song, and totally written to be a father/daughter dance song. I guess what I am suggesting is to give your dad some options and see what happens!
Our song from when I was little is Father Daughter Harmony by Phil Keaggy. It isn’t the most artsy song in the world but it has alot of meaning for us. What if you found a song like that? One that doesn’t have to be the prettiest or make the most sense to anyone else. It just has to be meaningful. A friend of mine and her Dad danced to a really upbeat song that had nothing to do with love because it is what he used to sing to her to make her smile when she was little and became “their” song. It was really sweet and kinda fun to watch.
There is a beautiful song called i loved her first by heartland that i was originally having but then it hit me the other day when i was going through music that i love the horses and have since i was a little girl mum and dad said no matter where i was i would always dance to it so it just makes sense to have that song as father daughter song for us. i agree with ms hedgehog it doesnt have to make sense to anyone else or even be a real slow lovey song, maybe something from ur childhood or something that you both enjoy maybe
I was having a really hard time with this as well. My Dad and I didn’t have the type of sappy relationship so many of these songs seemed to portray. When I heard Daughter by Loudon Wainwright, I instantly knew that was the song for us. It was simple and described us perfectly without being flowery and over- dramatic. Good luck! Picking music can be rough.
