There have been a lot of song posts in the past- I would suggest trying the search box in the upper right corner of the page and mining the old posts for inspiration.
For my father/daughter, I ripped of Mrs. CandyCorn and used Loudon Wainwright's "Daughter"
We used Forever Young. Joan Baez singing the Bob Dillon version (not to be confused with the Rod Stewart version). The lyrics were perfect for us and we wanted something folksy.
We're debating wether to even dance at all. But if I did, I would go non-traditional and use a song that my dad likes, or something that reminds me of him when I hear it. Maybe a slow CCR song or something like that. I'm undecided. My fiance' wants to do "Mama" by boys-2-men if he ends up dancing with her.
I have to add though - I've been to so many weddings and there's sometimes too much dancing. The first dance, the mom/son dance, the dad/daughter dance, dancing with your children, siblings, or grandparents, and so on - pretty soon your guests will have to sit through an hour of special dancing! NOT always fun for the spectators! It gets kind of boring!
So take that into consideration when choosing your songs...the shorter the better!
There's been lots of posts on this that I've probably posted on...
I'm dancing with my dad to the song I was named after (can't say it, or it will give me away because it's pretty unique)
FI is dancing with his mom to "I Am Your Child" by Barry Manilow
