what sort of ceremony? im a fan of ave maria but this type of song is not for all tastes
We don't have much traditional music other than the processional. We are getting married by a pastor of our church. I love Ave Maria and thought about that, but my soloist couldn't sing it in her vocal range. I may still play it though.
I'm considering singing "They can't take that away from me" for my grandpa. These are the lyrics:
The way you wear your hatThe way you sip your teaThe memory of all thatNo, no they cant away from me
The way your smile just beamsThe way you sing off keyThe way you haunt my dreamsNo, no they cant take that away from meWe may never, never meet againOn the bumpy road to loveStill Ill always, always keep the memory ofThe way you hold your knifeThe way we danced till threeThe way you changed my lifeNo, no they cant take that away from meNo, they cant take that away from me
We may never, never meet againOn that bumpy road to loveStill Ill always, always keep the memory ofThe way you hold your knifeThe way we danced till threeThe way you change my lifeNo, no they cant take that away from meNo, they cant take that away from me
(Knife sounds weird, but I think they just mean like silverware)
There's also always "Unforgettable."
Unforgettable, thats what you areUnforgettable though near or farLike a song of love that clings to meHow the thought of you does things to meNever before has someone been more
Unforgettable in every wayAnd forever more, thats how youll stayThats why, darling, its incredibleThat someone so unforgettableThinks that I am unforgettable too
<instrumental interlude>
Unforgettable in every wayAnd forever more, thats how youll stayThats why, darling, its incredibleThat someone so unforgettableThinks that I am unforgettable too
Both beautiful songs and good for a lower vocal range.
One that popped right in my head is a really lovely song by Alison Krauss called "Baby Mine" It's a song sung by a mother to her child. Chokes me up sometimes.
There's a link to listen to it on Lala.
Because You Loved Me by Celine Dion, Wind Beneathe My Wings, You Raise Me Up...there are just a few options I thought of. Hope you find the perfect song!
Mandyrosy, I love the idea of doing "they can't take that away from me" at your wedding. What a sweet song :)
Alison Krauss can make any song just amazing. It's actually the song from Dumbo when he visits his mom and it shows all the other animal mother and children. So sweet.
I love Baby Mine. My mom used to sing that to me as a child. I love this idea. My mom passed away in November (11 years ago) so I decided to get married in November because she would want me to have a good memory for that month.
"Mama" by Il Divo. It may not be your favorite kind of music (they are a classical group) but this song is so touching. I am thinking about planning it after my father-daughter dance as a tribute to our mothers, grandmothers, aunts, and all of the other women in our lives who have done so much for us.
*Warning* if you listen to this song please have tissue ready!

I'm trying to find a good song to honor my mother who passed away 2 1/2 years ago. I just can't find the right song and she didn't really have any particular music she liked. I'm having someone sing a solo during the ceremony for this part if I can. Ideas?
