What about some contemporary versions of older hymns? We were going to do that (but ended up letting our musicians choose the worship music). I know Chris Tomlin has some great ones….

@mrsBtoBee:  Are you looking for contemporary or sacred music?  Is secular music acceptable?

These are what I used!
May depend on your church…my ceremony was outside with a flute/string trio.
Songs during seating…
Ave Verum Corpus – Mozart
Air from Water Music – Handel
Largo from Xerxes (or Ombra mai fu) – Handel
Sheep may safely graze – Bach
Air on a G string – Bach
Entrance from the Queen of Sheba – Handel

Sleepers Awake – Bach (grooms parents and grandmother entering)

Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring – Bach (attendants entering)

Trumpet Voluntary – Clarke  (bride entrance)

Wedding March – Mendelssohn (for the exit)

Here are the original three we were going to use (chosen because they were contemporary versions of older hymns that a lot of guests would know):

– “Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee” – Passion

– “Take My Life” – Chris Tomlin

– “Let Everything that has Breath Praise the Lord” – Matt Redman

And this CD has a lot of contemporary versions of older ones: http://www.amazon.com/Passion-Ancient-Modern-Worship-Band/dp/B0001BS3KW

Hope that helps :-). I know there are so many options with music it’s sometimes hard to choose!

@mrsBtoBee:  “I’m looking for christian songs as I need that for the ceremony, in a church…… :)”

Right, but different churches would have different requirements.  You’d have different music in an Anglican church than in a non-denominational church.

First choice: contemporary vs. traditional

Contemporary is something modern – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V1bFr2SWP1I&feature=av2e (Somewhere over the Rainbow as an example)

Traditional music is something much older – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wpPk8qk3uQ (Pachelbel’s Canon in D as an example)

Second choice:  non-secular vs. secular

Secular music is songs written for secular plays, operas, etc – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFTnFErJEu4&feature=related (Wagner’s Bridal Chorus is from the opera Lohengrin)

Non-secular music is songs not written for secular puposes – http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1088E6E2fY (Clarke’s Prince of Denmark March was written by the organist at St. Paul’s Cathedral in London)

Next issue: what instruments are available and is there a singer?  I’ve seen everything from to organ only to organ and trumpet to a full rock band (three guitars and a drummer) in church weddings.

I’m currently toying with different versions of my two favorite hymns- It is Well With My Soul & Be Thou My Vision.

I’m also considering Sufjan Stevens’ Amazing Grace and Patty Griffin’s All Creatures of Our God and King.

There are so many beautiful options! I guess it depends on if you want the music during seating or recessional, for during a prayer, or as a performance.

One song that we are DEFINITELY having is “Your Love is Extravagant” by Casting Crowns. It’s such a beautiful acoustic song. I think we are having this during Communion!
