I would cut the cake right after dinner (or while people are finishing eating) before everyone gets on the dance floor. It would be a bit of a buzzkill to stop the music just for that.

Our entrance was “Hot in Herre” by Nelly. I think we picked some random cake cutting song but I don’t remember if they played it or not.

Entrance: Pary Rock – LMFAO (this was the entrance song for everyone)

Cake: Ice Cream & Cake – Buckwheat Boys (this is a song from our college, they played it at the basketball games so it was fitting)

Last song: Don’t Stop Believing – Journey (we did a group sing-along/dance to end the night)

Note: we did our cake cutting before dinner (after first dance and toasts) so we wouldn’t interrupt the open dancing portion of the night.

kristen182:  We have selected:

Entrance song: “Everlasting Love” by Carl Carlton (This is a song I’ve loved since I was a little girl, don’t ask me why.)

First Dance: “Cosmic Love” by Florence and the Machine

Father/Daughter Dance: “Blacbird” by the Beatles

Cake Cutting: “Going to the Chapel” by the Dixie Cups

Last Dance: Undecided, but we are considering “Take Me Home Tonight” or “Don’t Stop Believing”

kristen182:  We cut the cake to “How Sweet It is To Be Loved By You” by James Taylor (loved it!)  and did this before the dance party portion of the reception began.  Our grand entrance song was Bitter Sweet Symphony instrumental version by The Verve.  Our last dance song was “You Look Wonderful Tonight” by Eric Clapton.  This was followed by our last song of the evening, Led Zeppelin “Thank You.”

These are some good ideas – we are still debating on songs!

I don’t know if we’ll have an entrance song yet, as we have a band and are being introduced by a cousin of FI’s (he works in radio and has the voice for it). But, if I had to pick… it would either be “You Make My Dreams Come True” by Hall & Oates, or “Young Hearts Run Free” from the Romeo and Juliet soundtrack.

The Hall & Oates one may be the Wedding Party song. Although the band does sing that one, so we may just wait until they play it and I’ll find something else.

First dance is TBD… but I am leaning towards “Follow Through” by Gavin DeGraw

Father/Daughter & Mother/Son – In My Life by The Beatles

No cake cutting song, as we’ll have our reception music playing… which is a bunch of love songs from a varity of artists. It’ll be a shuffle, so whatever song comes on will work!

Second to last dance – AC/DC – Shook Me All Night Long (FI LOVES this song, so that’s when we plan on playing it).

Last song – our first dance song, just replayed.

kristen182:  I just love how the song starts… and feel that it’d be a super fun song for making an entrance. I think once we talk with the band about what we can do with music… it may or may not be doable. That’s OK though.

kristen182:

Entrance: Another One Bites the Dust by Queen (we let our Best Man pick lol)

Cake Cutting: None (they were playing music quietly in the background.

Last song: The Luckiest by Ben Folds (holds a very special meaning in our proposal, his ring, and wedding)

We didn’t have our parents as part of the grand entrance, but I did have “You’re Still the One” by Orleans play special for them because mom says that’s “their song.”

At the reception:

Wedding party: U2 – Beautiful Day

Us: Sister Hazel – One Love

First Dance: Norah Jones – Come Away With Me

Cake Cutting: Lumineers – Ho Hey (which was used by my B & SIL at their wedding for their cake cutting one year, almost to the day, earlier)

Last Dance: I don’t know! Our DJ was great – we just don’t have a very dance-y group of people (we aren’t partiers, either).

One of the neat things that we did was get the first songs from our close family and friends and give them to the DJ to slot in wherever he thought they fit. It made for some awesome pictures – and was fun to watch people realize their song was playing and go and dance to it. Each couple I saw lit up when the music started playing.
