I have been having terrible pain in my legs and feet. It almost feels like poor circulation, making them achy and painful. I find myself constantly stretching out my legs and feet, including toes! …And begging for massages from my poor husband! They don’t hurt all the time, and mostly in the evenings. Has anyone else had this happen? What could cause it? What will help me feel some relief?

@emmos: No idea! My calves have been sore on a couple days, but have no clue what would cause it.

@emmos: are you sure there is no swelling? I would mention it to my dr if I were you.

@mamadingdong: If I have any swelling, I haven’t noticed it yet! I have an apointment with my midwife in a week and a half, I’ll mention it when I’m there.

If you’re not sure what’s causing the pain, you might call your midwife and see if they have any suggestions. They might even bump up your appointment if they think it’s something that needs attention. Other options… a heating pad or a warm bath?

I’ve tried the warm bath, and on some occasionas it helps… The last time it happened, a bath (with epsom salts) didn’t help at all.
I may try calling them! This only happens once or twice a week on average, so it may be ok to just wait the 10 days to my appointment. I’ll just see how many times, or if it happens at all before I go!

How far along are you? If you’re later into your pregnancy and have had more weight gain, tendon stretching, and leg swelling, I’d be less worried. If you’re early or it’s new and suddenly showed up, it could be a cause for concern. Leg pain can be caused by clots, and if it is severe and frequently recurring, it’s worth consulting with a doctor, or at least calling a nursing hotline and asking about.

I’ve had pretty wierd pain in my upper thighs, it feels like sore muscles when I move, but when I feel or “palpate” the areas that hurt, even deeply, It’s not tender as with sore muscles, it’s very strange! I feel like it’s most likley ligament pain, or my pelvis is changing position due to shifting hormone levels.
Pregnancy is so weird.

@emmos: A lot of weird stuff happens during pregnancy! If you are further along, the extra weight on your legs and feet definitely takes its toll by the end of the day. I find keeping my feet elevated as much as possible, especially in the evenings, helps. If your health coverage includes massage therapy, that would be a good thing to try!

I’m 15+ 5 today!
I had a massage last week, it was AMAZING! But I only have $500 covered each year, so I’m trying to space them out!

My pg app JUST yesterday said that this is a symptom of pregnancy (leg pain) so I wouldn’t worry about it especially if its only once or twice a week. Just wait until your appt and stay well hydrated! Your muscles definitely will be MORE sore and tight if they are dehydrated.
