anyone use JUST bc for well…. birth control? I am on a medium to high dose and have been on it for months now. Taking it at the same time every day.
I know it sounds silly but even so I’m terrified of getting pregnant! 😛
Never used it FOR birth control before since I used it all through my teens for hormonal issues.
I know it’s silly and my doctor says they’re .01 chance or so on the pill I’m on… but I’m still antsy. Anyone with me?

I do too. I use a low dose because other pills have made me sick and sent me to the ER. No joke. I take Loestrin 24 now and my periods have become so light and this last month I got only spotting. That is when I really knew how badly I don’t want to get pregnant (mini panic attack). I really need to save up more money, I need to get married (not that it’s a must but I really want to look good on my wedding day and I don’t want to be rushing to lose the baby weight.) We want to buy a house in a year or two and that will not happen with any extra expenses.
So yes, still antsy. I have alarms set so I take my bc it at the same time every day. I love kids but not until I’m 27-28 (I’m 25 now). I really like getting out of the house in 10 minutes and handing crying children back to their mothers.

Yup, and a condom every time and if i think im ovulating then the cookie jar is staying on the shelf. 🙂 We’re a little paranoid.

I have been using Loestrin 20 only for about 4 years now – no problems so far!

You need to double or triple up on methods. I know several BC babies. It should be used with condoms or the pull out, or NFP.

Um, you can’t use NFP with the pill. The whole point of the pill is to stop you from ovulating.
I have used exclusively the pill for YEARS with no problems. All of my friends take their pill consistently and use back-up when they need to (missed a pill, antibiotics, etc…) and we have no BC babies.

I’m paranoid too (like @Dr Pepper:, we’ve had our ‘oooh holy smokes’ moment before). I’m sort of like @imalittlebirdie: in that we ALWAYS use a backup, but I’m not so good at hiding the cookies. LOL.
If you’re nervous, always use condoms, and keep an alarm set on your phone to take it at the same time every day! That’s the most important part in keeping your pill as reliable as possible.
@SarahSmilesDec28: You actually can use NFP/FAM. Not all pills are effective in both steps (preventing ovulation and creating a hostile environment for a fertilized egg if one does happen). So knowing your fertile times through temping/charting can show you that you are indeed ovulating even on the pill, so you can then try a new brand, use a backup method, or abstain.

I’ve been using only BC for a few years and have had no problems, knock on wood (I literally just knocked on wood, haha). I know it’s not 100 percent effective, but I’m fairly certain that the small percentage of times that it fails is when people haven’t been taking them correctly. It sounds like you’re doing well with taking it at the same time every day and not skipping days, so I think you should be fine!

Be super vigilant about you pills and also use a condom, spermicide, sponge, pull out etc etc. It will help with your paranoia!

I’ve only ever used bcp by themselves.

Nice (and comforting) to know! I also know several BC babies but it was nearly always the same story…. their moms were on antibiotics or a conflicting drug at the same time they were conceived. 😛
I’m on a pretty strong dose of generic yaz right now and love it! And I do take it righteously!
