- Wedding: August 2014
I wasn’t sure if this should go in venue or ceremony… but I need your opinions.
Today we went to our tasting and asked if we could peek into the ballroom to see the space again. We’re using the same room that overlooks the water for both ceremony and reception. I was ok with this, but didn’t love that the pre-set tables would be pushed in the corner and guests could see the settings/centerpieces in advance. The cocktail hour will be across the foyer in a smaller room with a wall of windows that overlooks the city and opens onto an outdoor terrace. I was in a wedding last summer at this venue and it rained so we didn’t go out on the terrace, but honestly it wasn’t attractive. I had heard the hotel remodeled the terrace so I asked to see that area as well and when I saw it I was blown away! Now it looks amazing – they’ve redone the floor with a gorgeous slate tile and added a wooden “wall” on one side with a row of large potted plants in front and the Space Needle is in the background. My fiance and I looked at each other and immediately asked if it was possible to have the ceremony outside. She said yes but reminded us of the train tracks below with the possibility of noise, plus the normal city sounds. I would 100% move the ceremony outside if it weren’t for the potential of a train going by and interrupting, but at the same time our ceremony is approximately 15-25 minutes long so what are the odds of that happening on a Sunday evening?
This would be a gorgeous backdrop for the ceremony and remove my concern about guests seeing the reception tables in advance. It would also be unique because there’s never been a wedding on the terrace before, although other brides could decide to do so as well before our August date.
The one other consideration – since the terrace is an extension of where the cocktail hour would be, is that too awkward? Guests might potentially just stay outside where all the chairs are set from the ceremony?
