My fiance and I are planning to go to South Africa for our honeymoon (in February)- from your previous experience do you guys think checking out the Garden Route and catching a Safari in Kruger is doable in 7 days?

I jst planned out a similar trip (and got lots of great feedback from bees on this board) and we were planning on 19 days. I guess it depends how much of the garden route you want to do and where you want to safari. We planned to do 5 nights in / near Kruger national park then fly to Cape Town, do 4 nights there (including a day at a vineyard) and then drive along the Garden Route to Port Elizabeth, spending 5 nnights along the way and 2 nights in PE before flying back to JNB to fly home. The other 2 nights are absorbed into flying as we would lose a day each way in flight. So, I think 7 days is way too short. Even when I looked at packages offered from travel agencies, the shortest I saw was 8 nights but that was safari and Cape Town, no Garden Route. IMO, the flight is long enough that I would not want to stay less than 2 weeks. In fact, we were sad we couldn’t stay 3 full weeks and continue on to the Wild Coast after PE.
ETA: If you are interested in the feedback I got for planning, here’s the thread http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/south-africa-garden-route-safaritips-please

Thanks for the awesome infomation.
We have our flights book we’re planning on being in Cape Town and the surrunding area for 8 nights and 7 nights along the garden route- I think we will look for a safari along the garden route or in Port Elizabeth as thats where we will fly out from 🙂
Hopefully this is enough time for everything!
