i'm getting married this november so my fiance and i have decided to travel all around south america (plus costa rica).  we're thinking of hitting brazil, argentina, peru, and flying into ecuador in order to go to the galapagos.  our honeymoon is 3 weeks long so this is definitely doable :)  just wanted suggestions on where to visit and/or avoid!  thanks!~

I see this was posted a month ago, so I'm sure you've already made your plans (or at least given up on getting a response!)

Anyway, I think giving yourself 3 weeks to try and see all these places (including Costa Rica?!) is setting a suicidal pace. I used to live in Peru (in 2002) and traveled alone throughout SA in 2002 & 2004. South America is HUGE and distances between places are deceptively long. Even if you planned on flying everywhere, you would find yourself spending more time en route than actually enjoying a place. And if you're planning on taking buses (and there are some nice bus lines in SA, so it's not a bad way to travel if you have the time), it would be impossible.

If I were you, I would choose one area--either Brazil/Argentina or Peru/Ecuador. And since you're getting hitched in November, and I'm assuming taking a honeymoon in Nov./Dec., I would go to Argentina and then work your way up through Uruguay and Brazil, since it will be early summer there, and the weather will be lovely. Where you go/don't go totally depends on what you like to do, and what your comfort level in terms of traveling is. I would spend a few days in Buenos Aires, maybe do some side trips, then head up through Uruguay and hit some beaches, go north to Curitiba (nice, but not worth much of a stop), make a side trip to Foz do Iguacu (definitely worth a trip to see the waterfalls), and then carry on to Rio de Janeiro (via Sao Paulo if you like big cities) for a few days and fly out of there. That could easily use up 3 weeks, but it wouldn't be too stressful.

Don't get me wrong--a trip to Peru/Ecuador would be great too (I used to live in Lima, and love it there), but for a honeymoon, I would do Brazil + Arg. (way more romantic!). Hope you have a wonderful trip with your new hubby!
