I desperately want to lose weight before my wedding and I know family and friends who have had amazing life results on the South Beach Diet. I fought it for a while because I hate the idea of diets. I think it is more important to make a lifestyle change. What I didnt' realize is that South Beach is ALL ABOUT a lifestyle change. The only tough part is that in order to start that change, you have to be strict for atleast the first 2 weeks.

I need some support to get to my goal weight. I'm a street size 16 and I refuse to have a muffin top and bulging back fat on my wedding day. Anyone wanna join me in the South Beach Diet? If not for losing weight, anyone wanna join me purely for eating healthier to live longer, be happier, and for my moral support?!?! :)

I'm starting Monday, January 3rd, and it's going to be a challenge for me. The more people supporting me, the more likely I am of reaching my goal!

I did the South Beach before my wedding.  I don't really think of a it as a diet because it's all about healthy lifestyle changes.  Phase 1 is diet-like though...

Here are my staples in case you want ideas:

colored bell peppers, hummus, low fat cottage cheese, low fat string cheese, almonds, laughing cow cheese, fat free sugar free jello pudding, crystal light, hard boiled eggs, celery

for dinner we often made turkey tacos with lettuce shells (substitute cottage cheese for sour cream...inside the taco it tastes the same!)

grilled filet mignon with green beans on the side (filet is the leanest steak)

we would also pick up chicken breasts and cucumber salad from a thai place

    or El Pollo Loco

    Good luck!

I'll join you! I did SB about 3 years ago and had great results. I found the biggest thing for me is to have somebody to be accountable with. I did SB with a roommate and we kept each other in check.  Also, we found ways to treat ourselves. For instance, there are 2 dishes at Cheesecake Factory that can fit SB phase 1 and we would treat ourselves out every 2-3 weeks (during happy hour so that the bill was maybe $10 total).  I need to get back into SB.

Thanks for the suggestions! Those are helpful! The hardest part is going to be that I'm lactose intolerant and have a hard time with eggs... but I'm going to experiment and see what I can come up with.

@Mrs Green Grass: For turkey tacos, did you do the ground turkey or lunch meat type turkey?

@maisymay: We don't have a Cheescake Factory in Alaska yet.... but thinking about it just made my mouth water!

How are you ladies doing on South Beach? I'm only on day 3 of being strict on the diet and feel amazing! I've also lost 5 lbs in the past week!

I find that I only get fed up with my food if I overcook it. Cooking fish is new to me and I typically make it too dry so I'm gonna have to call my mama for some tips unless you ladies have some.

The easiest way to tell if fish is done is to put a fork in the thickest section and twist. If it flakes, you are good to go.

I started Jan 1st! I've lost 30 pounds before in highschool and wanted to graduate thin- i gained about 15 of it back in college and want to loose it again. Anyway- I am doing well and really don't have cravings. I noticed though after I eat sugar free jello I start to crave bad foods - so i am limiting it. I also am lactose intolerant but take lactaid pills which seem to help alot. my secret is cailiflower + low fat chive cream cheese and low fat sour cream- cook it and put it in the food processor and its just like mashed potatoes! also if you are craving a crunch ( like you get with chips) get flavored pork rinds - just limit your intake because its high in sodium. I also eat their quiches in the morning- I am usually in a go in the morining and I just make a batch of veggie quiches in foil muffin tins and freeze them- I pull two of them out of the freezer, pop in the microwave and I'm good to go. So excited to hear about your progress so far!

What exercise are you doing? I just started Zumba classes and even though I probably look like a monkey doing it, it's a lot of fun!

oh also i just made up a new recipie for mini meatloafs-

extra lean turkey or beef chuck

    peppers / onions

    jalapenos (optional)

    a dash of eggs whites

    no sugar added ketchup

mix it up and put in 12 foil muffin tins- bake for like 20 minutes. you'll have extra - keep a few in the freezer and pop one out if your craving a quick snack - very delicious!

@larbar0: Oooo... thanks for the good ideas! I'm lactose intollerant as well so it's been a little hard for me. Phase 1 is doing a doozy  on my digestive system. Not fun.

I haven't been able to go to the gym much because I don't have a lot of energy due to the lack of carbs. I find it really hard to do more than 30 minutes of cardio. I'm sure it will get better next week when I will be on Phase 2 and can eat whole grains.

I REALLY want to do a Zumba class, but I hear that it's an hour of non-stop moving, so I'm going to wait until next week when I have more carbs in my diet.

@marchbride26: I love carbs too! I was skeptical about this diet at first because I love carbs and was too lazy to just try it. Now, I'm SOOOO glad that I tried it. I lost a little over 10 lbs in the first 2 weeks. Phast 1 is where you will have the most dramatic weight loss then it starts to slow down to a healthy weight loss pace (about 2 lbs a week). I've been faithfully doing South Beach for 4 weeks and I've lost 16 lbs and feel AMAZING! Also, Phase 1 cleared up my acne and made my skin baby smooth, it was really neat. My tummy is flatter than it has been in a very long time.

As of today I have lost 20 lbs (I started January 3rd) in 2 months. And that is with VERY minimal exercise. I haven't been to the gym in over a month. Since I haven't been to the gym, I'm starting to plateau sooo I'm starting on Phase 1 again today to avoid going to the gym. With wedding planning, I just don't have time that I want to set aside for working out. It's easier to just eat healthy.

I want to lose atleast 20 more.

@liciablle: How was transitioning to Phase 2? I'm just ending Phase 1! Did you gain anything at first from adding carbs back or was it a "smooth" transition? Congratulations on 20 lbs! That's fantastic!

I wish you the best of luck! I have heard great things about South Beach. Unfortunately the diet made me feel awful! I need my carbs! I lost 31 lbs. and almost all of my belly fat using sparkpeople.com  It's free and I just tried to follow their general nutritional guidelines and exercise daily! Oh it took 5 months to lose the weight but at my age I have to do it that way because of the risk of loose skin.

I say whatever works for you is grand!

I will be thinking of you while I enjoy tonight's snack of No-pudge brownie topped with fat-free frozen mint chocolate cookies and cream frozen yogurt!

@ME Team: Transitioning was super easy and I LOVE Phase 2. It was hard for me to go back to Phase 1 this week but I want to lose weight faster. I didn't gain any weight when switching to Phase 2 but the weight loss was much more gradual. I lost about 2 lbs a week and had to watch how much I ate because I have a tendency to overdo it on pasta and carbs. The key is to not over-eat. Once you are full you need to stop. It helps to serve yourself smaller portions so you're not tempted to gorge.

FI and I have made pizza and tortillas from scratch with white whole wheat flour. We've made all kinds of fun recipes with white whole wheat flour instead of all-purpose flour and we use Splenda instead of sugar.

I had SO much energy on Phase 2. It was wonderful! I live up 4 flights of stairs and I didn't get winded on Phase 2. It was pretty cool. Eating whole grains and healthy foods has drastically changed my daily life and I'm so thankful. I've never felt this good.

Since going back on Phase 1 a few days ago, I've already lost another 2.5lbs.

@luciabelle: That's awesome! Thanks for the response. I start phase 2 in 3 days and I'm really excited to begin adding healthy starches back and get the engery that comes along with it!
