- Wedding: October 2013
Hello Bees. I have started looking into our honeymoon. We are very lucky as our company is letting us take 3 weeks and our boss is letting us use our vacation pay to pay for our trip while still paying our salary while we are gone.
We figured that we can go to carribean any time. I figure since it’s only a few hours flight, we can do that when we take a week vacation some other time plus Fiance and I have been to Mexico, Dominican republic and Cuba (not together but with our previous partners) so this time we want to do something different.
I feel in love with the idea of visiting Bali and Thailand. We will pretty much spend 15 days there and use the remaining time to travel there and unwind.
Our wedding is on a Saturday, so we would be leaving Monday arriving to Bali where we would spend 4 days in UBUD with a full Honeymoon Package and then head for 3 days to SANUR.
Then Fly to Phuket in Thailand and spend 4 days there while visiting the Phi Phi islands and then head for 4 days to Bangkok. Then come home.
Our budget is pretty good.
So I did some research on my own and found few places, resorts we like and decided to speak to a travel agent giving him a budget of 9,000 who gave me an estimate of aprox 9,750.
The thing is though, when I looked at the flights myself and resorts and calculated it, I am coming to a way lower number then what the travel agency gave me. I mean 2,000 less then what they told me.
I looked at same resorts and their rates, I looked at taxes of those resorts as well as the flights with taxes and I come to a number of 7,500.
Can someone tell me if I am missing anything? Are there any other charges I am overlooking ?
I asked the travel agent for a price breakdown, but haven’t heard from him yet.
Just to add, the resorts only offered breakfast so his price didn’t even include dinners and drinks as he specified to me.
Is it better to book everything separatelly online ourselves instead ? It just seams that 2,000 is a lot of difference, that money could be used for our dinners and gifts.
What are your opinions and experience with traveling and booking on your own vs agent ?
