Why are these boards so dead?!? I feel like we're the forgotten part of jersey/philly. I don't know about you bees, but where I am, there are TONS of bridal shops and catering halls. So why is this board always dead?!
Hahaha....sadly, it's not the case for me!! what about you?
@futuremrsmaista: I *think* i have all of my local-related stuff locked down. But who knows. Someone just started a thread in the weddingbee board about how a LOT of the local boards are dead!
So its not just us!
I agree. I've posted a few things and never really got a response. Let's keep them alive, ladies!
@futuremrsmaista: The philly boards have some SJ stuff too. Hey I saw you're getting married at Aloft in another thread. I drive by there every day on my way to work - do you live nearby?
Yup! (kinda) We live in Haddon Heights. I work in philly though. How about you?
@futuremrsmaista: we live in Marlton, right off of rte 73. FH has an office in philly and takes patco to get there but mostly works at home. I work up in Mercer county, about 40 miles north so I'm on the turnpike a lot.
Did you pick out a florist at all? Or hair/makeup? looks like you still have some time...
Yes! Our florist is Robertson florist (they were affiliated with the Aloft)...they have a few locations in Philly. I'm going to Thriv Salon for my hair (it's where I always go), and I'm going to try out their makeup person there. I would like to have a makeup person come to the hotel though, and they don't do that....who are you using?
Who are your other vendors? We're using cinemacake for video and kevin york for photo. kylemichelle weddings for our doc. sound choice for the dj.
Ok lets see....
Hair/makeup - Salon Rouge (thats where I go normally for my hair). It would cost A LOT more to get people to come to my parents' since they can all make more money in the salon instead of travel to a client, so we're all heading in, no biggie.
Flowers - Mum's the Word
Photo - K&K
Music - D'Amico entertainment (they are based in north jersey, we saw them at a friend's wedding and they were so awesome we had to book them!)
Photobooth - J-dogs (my FBIL's company - yaay free)
No videographer or DOC, though we may have a BM's DH use our parents video camera
I usually check out the Philly boards, even though we live in S. Jersey, most of our vendors will be Philly based, with the exception of hair/makeup (maybe) and DJ!
@FutureMrsMaista We're neighbors! We live in Barrington!! :)
Hey!
I also live in South Jersey... and futuremrsmaista we have the same wedding date! I have everything booked at this point. I am really focused now on my accessories to go with my dress. Where did you guys get your head pieces and veils and jewelry? Are there any reasonable places around here? I got my dress at Irma's.
@JenLovesRoy: I think that Jay West in Haddonfield has relatively inexpensive veils, like maybe starting @ $50. I bought my dress at Bridal Garden and their veils were starting at over $100 which seems ridiculous! I was at Irma's also and ordered my BM dresses there but no idea on the cost of the veils.
Are you getting married around here?
@Stammie16: I used to go to Salon Rouge! I went there for YEAAAARS until my stylist disappeared. Where's your venue?
@LibraryBride2013: crazy!! we have a friend that lives in Barrington getting married soon too! my mom grew up there!
@JenLovesRoy: I got my veil on etsy because I was looking for something a little different, and I couldn't find it in the salons. Bridal Garden is really overpriced for accessories, though they do have beautiful ones. Jay West and Country Way in Haddonfield seem to have a lot.
@futuremrsmaista: LOL! Salon rouge is a little pricey, but I've only been going every 3 months and I LOVE my hairdresser!
We're getting married at The Merion over in Cinnaminson.
ETA: we also have a block of hotel rooms at the Wyndham (like 2 feet from Aloft) and we're doing a post-wedding brunch. Does Aloft offer any kind of package for you like that?
I'm hopefully going to be back in Camden County soon to visit my family. It's been about three months now.
Just saying hey to my hometown ladies! I haven't been back to Jersey in 4 years I think!
@MissPumpkinPie: are you getting married near the shore or near your fam?
@MissAsB: woohoo - another Jersey girl, must be a culture shock from...Alabama is it? Were you in south jersey?
@JenLovesRoy & @futuremrsmaista: One of my BM's is your date twin (triplet, I guess!), a busy day for South Jersey weddings! She's getting married at a church in Haddon Heights and reception at the Collingswood Ballroom! (And she also lives in Barrington!)
@misslyn86: Yay, neighbors! and another 2013 bride too! Where are you getting married?
@Stammie16: The Merion is lovely! Yes, we have a block of rooms at the ALoft...it'll be nice because no one will have to drive anywhere afterwards!
@LibraryBride2013: Collingswood ballroom is so pretty! I went to a wedding there that was beautiful a few years back. Is she getting married at a catholic church (St Rose) or episcopal (st marys)? Ours is at the hotel (all one place), but those churches are really pretty.
I totally agree. I've been posting and posting but nothing.. NADA! I'm having my wedding in south jersey, on LBI and I will tell you what.. Sometimes i feel like i'm the only Jersey girl on here! Lets keep it alive!
@LibraryBride2013: Oh goodness, I have no idea!! We are venue shopping in Janurary(I just got a fulltime job! yay!) We are leaning towards a winery...but we had gone to a wedding at Luciens in Berlin and the happy hour was EXACTLY what we want...so I don't know!! It is hard to look at these places online, we definitely need to see them in person! How about you??
Edit! NVM! Collingswood Ballroom?? I have never been, but I was actually interested in looking there! From the pictures it looks beautiful!
@misslyn86: It's actually one of my BM's is getting married at the Collingswood Ballroom, and yes, very beautiful! I am actually getting married in Philly, in the final negotiations with our venue (hopefully!!) and will sign our contract not too long into the new year! There are some great winerys in S. Jersey, lots of great options for weddings! I did most of my research online, I'm more of a numbers/logistics planner, so I did all my research ahead of time online, looked at A LOT of photographers websites with pictures from the venues I was considering and we only visited ONE venue, and if all goes well with negotiating, we won't need to visit any more! :)
@futuremrsmaista: I think it's the episcopalian church, I know it's not catholic. It's the one across the street from the CVS on the White Horse Pike, right past Station Ave (literally walking distance from my house!)
@LibraryBride2013: Did you tell me you are booking at the Curtis Center in Philly? I know someone that just booked it for spring 2013.
Collingswood Ballroom was nice, I went to a bridal show there and I like how you could have cocktail hour overlooking the dancefloor/ballroom. I know someone that got married there like 4 years ago, it looked nice. I don't remember which caterers they work with, but I am TOTALLY in love with The Merion's food HANDS DOWN!!
@Stammie16: I was supposed to be getting married at the Smithville Inn, but we cancelled the big wedding because his parents basically backed out of helping us pay then kicked us out of their house for no reason. So, all my saved, hard earned money for the wedding was depleted so we could get our own place. So much for broken promises.
Sorry, I'm still a bit sore about it. We're just happy to be with each other and the marriage is what's important. We are settling for a small intimate wedding with just us two. Possibly on a cruise or going to Vegas or somewhere else. Haven't decided yet.
@LibraryBride2013: Oh!! That is what I get for reading through quickly :) I was also considering philly, but we just don't know! I did A LOT of research for photogs, only met with 2, and used the one we liked best for our e-pics, we are waiting to book a venue before booking them for the wedding...I can't wait!
@MissPumpkinPie: Aww that really sucks, sorry didn't know :(. I'd prefer to elope myself to be honest.
There was another thread about the average cost of a wedding and SJ was listed at the top with I think $36,000 as an average cost. Sucks for us!
@Stammie16: Yep, we're just a few emails away from having the Curtis Center... just some details to iron out. :) It's such an incredible venue, but the Merion is wonderful too (the BEST cakes, yet I may be a little partial!) :)
@MissPumpkinPie: So sorry to hear about having to cancel your plans, but it sounds like you are keeping up good spirits and the two of you will have a wonderful wedding, no matter the location or the size! And an even better reason to have a killer anniversary party! :)
@LibraryBride2013: Nice! I can always find out what vendors the other person is using if you are in need. And yes, I am very much looking forward to my AWESOME Merion cake :). I love that I am putting bling around each layer!
@LibraryBride2013: Yup! That's St Marys across from CVS and the pike. You must LITERALLY live down the street from me! I live off of Station in Heights! Crazy!!
@LibraryBride2013: Oh, and I work down the street from the Curtis center, and have actually done work in there (I'm an interior designer) Crazy! It's beautiful - love that stained glass.
@futuremrsmaista: I walk my pup down to Station Ave and around the side streets, through the park, all the time when it's warmer out (he's a wuss in this cold!) So I've probably passed your house, or somewhere close! I'm right behind the baseball/field hockey fields, on the Barrington side of the 295 overpass (295 IS my backyard - lovely, right?)
I just posted in the Philly boards about my venue saga... I'd appreciate feedback from any of you S. Jersey ladies too!
http://boards.weddingbee.com/topic/philly-brides-tendenza-vs-curtis-center-help-pic-heavy
@LibraryBride2013: What the heck - you are REALLY close! 295 is about 2 blocks from me....I pretend it's the sound of the ocean hahahaa I'm actually off 10th on W. High!
I just wanted to recommend 2 vendors especially:
1) If you are NOT DIYing your paper needs, my FMIL does invitations, stationary, STDs and they are REALLY nice. And since you aren't marrying her son, you can choose whatever you want and she won't be irritating!!! LOL (my invites are very nice, I just didn't like basically being told what I should do).
2) my FBIL owns a carnival catering company and he does photobooth rentals for weddings. He can also make funnel cakes, pretzels, etc to hand out to guests as they are leaving for the night, or a ton of other stuff.
If you're interested just PM me.
OK sorry to solicit!
Hi Ladies,
I am also a south jersey bride. Getting married in October at my church in Moorestown and reception to follow at Venice Plaza. I'm looking for a seamstress to do my wedding dress alterations. Purchased my dress at David's Bridal but I'm nervous to have them do the work on it. Too many scary reviews and they estimated over $300 for the work. Any suggestions would be so appreciated!
@lskolo: try fashion stitch in Mount Laurel. I've had her alter all of the bridesmaid dresses I've ever worn, and my friend just had her do her wedding gown and LOVED her. She is great, and not overpriced at all!
@lskolo: I second what @LibraryBride2013: said! She's done my dress as well.
