We've decided for budget/time reasons we're going to hold off on the big, fancy honeymoon. We sort of have an idea of what we want - a city in the South with stuff to do. For 4-5 days. For fairly cheap.

Our ideas so far: Smoky Mountains (North GA/Tenn. like Gatlinburg, Helen, Pigeon Forge), Savannah/Tybee, Charleston, Asheville, Myrtle Beach.

Is there anywhere you guys recommend? Good prices for some fairly romantic/private things without a $140+ per night budget? Ideas appreciated or experiences!

I'm in Florida...Have you considered driving down to the Keys, or Captiva Island??? AMAZING!!! And its able to be done fairly cheaply if necessary...

@Dolldancer8: I've never even heard of Captiva Island! Lol. Where is that at?

The Keys are quite a ways away...like a million hours, I think? (Okay, I exaggerate). I've looked into them but it seems pretty expensive to stay anywhere with our few little things we want. We want somewhere with a King size bed, a Jacuzzi, and a fairly decent drive. :)

Bump, even though I'm obviously strange and should bump this EARLIER in the day when the "normal" East Coast people are awake. Not after midnight. Lol

We went to Savannah for our mini-moon and loved it.  We stayed at the Green Palm Inn which was nice, a little far to things but still within walking distance (or take a pedicab).  Our room had a giant bed, two fireplaces, and a jetted tub (although it was regular sized but it doesn't matter being that close on your honeymoon).  Plus they gave us a bottle of sparkling wine and a nice honeymoon gift to remember our trip.

We drove to Tybee Island for a day which was really nice too (go to the top of the lighthouse, you'll never want to walk up that many stairs again but you'll love the view).  We ate at the Crab Shack for lunch which was absolutely delicious and they give you TONS of food (it's not fancy or romantic but it's right on the water and if you like seafood, you'll love it).  I'm sure I have other suggestions if you want them.  If we still lived closer I'm sure we'd be planning our next trip.
