On the note of pampering yourself before the big day, I have a quick question for you spa-goers.

I had a facial this week- my very first one! sooooo nice. My skin looked great that whole day and the next (very clear and glowing), but it seems since then I have been breaking out???? IS this normal?

I wonder if it's just by chance, or if it's from the exfoliation or something. I'd like to get a facial the day of or day before my wedding, the woman at the spa told me about a certain type of facial you can get that will make your makeup go on really smooth and your face will look fabulous, but I don't want to break out on day of!

Do not get a facial within a few days of your wedding. Just don't do it. It's normal for your face to break out following one; facials draw out a lot of impurities, or sometimes the lotions and things they use will make your pores react. Go ahead and get them as often as you want up until then, but I wouldn't get one for at least a week before your big day.

gina, i thought the same thing -- my face was great a few days after the facial and then it wasn't so great. =/ everyone said that i would be glowing about a week after, but i wasn't!

Amysue is right on the money.  It's normal to break out and for this reason, don't get one within 1 week of your wedding.  Until then, pamper away.

I third that.  I have heard that you should NOT get a facial within one week of your wedding.

This is going to sound like a dumb question. But why does one always breakout after a facial. And if one always breaks out after a facial, why go back?  Is it because your face looks nice AFTER you're done recovering from the breakouts??

I recently got a facial (only my 2nd one) and I am defintiely breaking out! My face hasn't cleared yet so I don't know if my skin will look better afterwards.

I think facials work best in a series. They gradually draw out lots of the impurities in your pores which is why you break out a few days later. Once you keep getting them on a regular basis for a while, hypothetically you break out less. Usually, I think of them as a way to make your skin look better over the long haul, not as a temporary fix.

After a facial its normal to break out more. Its best to do it 1 month before the big event. However one facial is not going to make a difference. Try doing a mini facial that will just focus on mask treatment. This helps the application of makeup sit on your face better. Mask facial is good 3-5 days before your event!

    Enjoy the pampering!

Do not get one before the wedding! I went by the rule- if i didn't use it on a daily basis, i didn't use it 2 weeks before the wedding. I did not want to run the risk of having a break-out or reaction to something. My skin is very particular in what products it likes- I don't have sensitive skin but you never know how you body can react to things.

My skin feels beat up after facials- i have gone to various ones and the extractions leave scars for up to a week after. Needless to say it has been and probably will be a very long time until i get another facial. I am perfectly happy with my Aveda clay mask once a week ;-)
