I loved Barcelona! My only suggestion is don't eat at a restuarant that has the menu in 12 languages. Your best bet for a good meal is to eat somewhere off the beaten track. Have fun, Spain is truly beautiful.
I don't know if it would fit into your schedule but I highly recommend Toledo for it's amazing sunset and old town, complete with a cathedral, town walls and other great buildings. It is overall very romantic and easy to get lost. The whole scity appears to be on a hill and there are so many great views. Toledo is a short train ride from Madrid and would work as a day trip if you had the time in Madrid.
In general, eat ice cream and try several red wines. There is a great market street in Barcelona. Be prepared to try some new foods that may be a bit out of your comfort zone, I was pleasently suprised by some bone in fish and cured ham at a tapas place in Madrid. There are several small tapas places around Plaza Mayor and when I went to dinner with a Spaniard, this is where he took us.
Have fun!
One of my favorite things in Barcelona was the COFFEE!!! Yum yum! And the street vendors who sold baked sweet potatoes and corn. My friends and I would buy a baked sweet potato, sprinkle it with salt, and eat it while we walked around the city to explore. At the end of the day, we would find a little cafe, grab a coffee - which was really an espresso with milk, so kinda like a latte but soooo good and rich, and we just sat and took in the amazing scenery!

Hi Bees!
My fiancee & I are heading to Spain on September 10th, and I am looking for any restaurant/bar/activity suggestions. We are flying into Barcelona, have 2 days there, then training to San Sebastian for 4 days, then 2 days exploring LaGuardia (wine country) & flying out of Madrid (1 day there). If you've been & have a must-see place, please share!!! We have looked all over trip advisor & in guide books for restaurant recommendations, but would love your feedback.
Thanks!
