I am Hispanic and my fiance is American.  We are definitely incorporating some Spanish traditions into our wedding.  We're having a non denominational wedding but we are including the use of the lazo (but not a rosary) and the arras, in lieu of the unity candle.  The way we're using the arras is that instead of him giving them to me or me handing them to him, we are both going to receive them from our minister and we are both placing them in a container together.

For the lazo, we are draping it around our shoulders and keeping them there while we say our vows.

MexiPieLove    August 7, 2010   Washington, DC, wedding in Mexico City

Hi everyone! I am Mexican American and my fiance is Asian American (half Korean, half Chinese). We live in Washington, but our families/friends are scattered across the U.S. so we are getting married in Mexico.

I'm hoping to incorporate the padrinos tradition for some (laso, arras, bible, rings, cake?) but not all parts of the wedding. We're also having 'theme' meals with Korean for the rehearsal dinner, Mexican for the wedding, and Chinese for the day-after brunch.

It's so strange knowing of Mexican traditions my family participates in but not knowing how to pull them off (parents are not being super helpful so far with guidance). It's also exciting to get to make the wedding fit our own style and priorities...so yeah, I'm overwhelmed.

I'm glad there's other brides out there facing similar multicultural / interfaith challenges, and I look forward to reading more about them as we continue planning!

Ok so another BORICUA(Puerto Rican) here. My FI is half Puerto Rican and half West Indian(Barbados). We are not really incorporating any of our heritages except for the live band and dj which will be playing Salsa,Merengue,Bachata all night. FI was born and raised in Bronx, NY and I was raised there so we don't know what traditions there are in PR. I am thinking of using Padrinos though
