Spanx!?

My bridal seamstress wagged a finger at me and said, “No Spanx under that dress!” , which stunned me because I have used Spanx in the past (the thigh-waist shaper) with good results.  She feels that the fabric used in Spanx ADDS “thickness” to brides wearing a fitted silhouette (my dress is a sheath, but quite fitted) and is recommending another brand but she didn’t write down the name of it yet.  Not to hijack your thread, but has anyone else’s seamstress made this comment about Spanx?  Just curious!

My dress was a sheath and I wore Spanx, specifically mid waist long shorts.  I ran around all night in them and was fine.  I went to a spanx store and got help from a salesgirl.  Since I didnt have my dress with me I bouhgt several types and wore the best one with the dress and returned the ones I didnt use (her recommendation).  I just didnt remove tags until I was ready to commit.

You should ask your seamstress. She’ll recommend the best undergarments for your dress.  Mine recommended Spanx…but I’m wearing a sheath dress and when I tried it on with underwear, it looked weird, I could see all the seams.

I went to Nordstrom (do that have that store in Canada?) and the salesperson was so helpful.  She showed me the differnt brands of shapers (there are a lot more than just spanx, I had no clue!), the amount of support they provide and the differnt leg lenghts and waist heights.  I ended up choosing a shaper by the brand Wacol that is really comfortable and works great with my dress.

A good shaper won’t roll down like pantyhose.  I was worried about that too.

The secret of good shaping undergarment is the right size. It won’t roll up or down. I have two Spanx: both are mid-thigh shorts ending right at my waist. One is pretty sturdy and ‘more shaping’, the other one is made of lighter fabric, with a very ‘silky’ ourside, so any dress looks flawless (no sticking!).

@Bri1o:  I struggled to find something myself….I went to lasenza, victorias, but I ended up finding the perfect thing at La Vi en Rose (canada)…i noticed your flag. Basically it covered my stomach and went down to just below my butt cheeks and it had boning in the sides so NO ROLLING UP when you bend/sit!!! It was a skirt type so no inner protection…but I just rubbed talcom powder on my legs and it was fine! I find/and have heard spanks doesnt help make anything smaller, its more just to smooth bumps…… THIS thing I found made me smaller 100% a few inches!! They did have ones that were non skirt (like shorts) that went down  a good few inches on the leg they just didnt have my size at the time! I partially chose the skirt type because  of peeing…. but to be honest I dont know if it was all the sweating?? but I think I pee’d once after we got to the whole reception

@Bri1o:  They’re super hot and you really need to cut a hole in the crotch if you to use the bathroom while wearing them because once you roll them off, they are damn nea rimpossible to get back on, especially if you’re sweaty.

@Bri1o:  As @beachbride1216 said, they can be difficult to get back up, espeically if it’s hot out. But actual Spanx have a big flap/hole in the crotch so you can pee. Their cheaper version (Assets- sold at Target in the US) don’t have a hole.

They made me look pregnant on my wedding day. I would have saved all the effort to get into them if I’d realized it. I didn’t know until we got our pics back. Horrifying.

@Daizy914:  You looked beautiful!  I wonder if she said that to me because my dress is silk charmeuse?  I guess I’ll find out at the first fitting next month!  Thanks for sharing your gorgeous photos!

@MissMiaMarch:  Aw thank yoy for the compliment.

I can see why the seamstress said that being that your dress is silk charmeuse.

is your dress strapless? If not you might want to look into the spanx that have straps-its basically a full body shaper. I say that bc my sister was my MOH and her dress was silk charmeuse and she wore spanx bkdy shaper but the one woth straps and she looked amazing. Otherwise, if your dress is strapless I would recommend get a size bigger so that you dont see any lines from the spanx.
