So… I am stuck at home because my SO has my keys, house key, car key and the restaurant key where I am supposed to be cleaning right now! And the spare keys are in his van… so he has BOTH sets of keys. If the spare keys were here, I could have driven to get my keys from him and started cleaning the restaurant!
I am now waiting for him to find out I am not at the restaurant cleaning when he finishes his other job at the other end of the city. Oh, call him on his cell you say? Well, his cell is right beside me… So when he does pick me up at 6:00 am ish, we will have to rush to clean the restaurant because the manager comes in around 7:00 I COULD JUST SCREAM!
So where do you keep your spare car keys?

We only have 2 keys to each car and we both have one that we carry. Probably not the best situation. It’s even worse because he has a Honda Accord and I have a CR-V and the keys are identical… they do not need to on the same ring. haha

@ChocolateLime: I know, this really sucks… I think I am going to go CRAZY then get another spare key made and hang it in the House!

In the IL’s house a 4-hour journey (with boats!) away…. We always have it in our mind to take it, or to ask them to post it “just in case”, but ALWAYS forget.
Darling Husband thinks this is a good thing, because knowing me, as soon as we have the spare key I will 100% drop the car key down a drain…
The faith my Husband has in my abilities to function really menas the world to me… lol

We only have 2 keys so we each have one.
Earlier this year I misplaced my keys so I looked in to getting replacements made. I found that it would have cost over $200 for the stupid key and remote, on top of sitting at the dealership for like 4 hours while they do whatever it is they have to do to replace it. I eventually found the keys but I couldn’t believe how expensive it was for a freakin’ spare. Needless to say, we’ll be sticking to the 2 keys we have and just hope that neither of us lose ’em.

@zippylef: We’re the same – kind of. I carry a key for both my car and DH’s car. He only carrys the key for his car though since he doesn’t want the extra bulk of two fobs in his pocket. So the spare key for my car is kept in our house in a drawer inthe kitchen.

We are forever having incidents with me forgetting my keys, locking them in the car, locking them in the house, etc. No matter where we put the spare, I will find a way to not be able to use it…so yeah, unlike your situation, I am the annoying one haha. It’s funny and aggravating at the same time. Darling Husband finally decided he was done with it and there are now five copies of my key – one with me, one with him, one in the house, one with my parents, and one with my boss. That sounds weird but I’m friends with my boss outside work, he and my Darling Husband decided they are pretty much my keepers and both need extra copies of my keys, nametags, etc., because of my absentmindedness. This may or may not have been decided because a bunch of us were hanging out on a day that I locked my keys in the house, then the car, then realized I forgot my purse and name tag…in my defense, I was having a really bad day with a lot on my mind.

We each have a spare set of car keys that live in a drawer in our apartment just in case.

Other: I wish I knew….
I can’t find my spare car key. HIS spare car key is on my keychain, though. If I had one, it would be on his keychain.

I have one set at home (in our “spare key” drawer), one set at my parents’, and one in my desk at work. When I was living with my parents I had an hour and a half drive to work (one way) and I was always worried I’d lock my keys in my car and have to wait for them to come get me.

The dealership told me I had to buy a spare car key for a ridiculous amount because of the computer chip. So I don’t have a spare.
His spare key is on my key ring. 😉

mine used to be at home. I think that’s the right place for them to be.
but i had my purse stolen 4 years ago and lost the original keys, so now i use the other ones, hence no spare key anymore 🙁
I probably should get one done asap…
anyone know how much that would cost? I have a BMW

SO just lost his house key yesterday, but luckily someone else at work found it. I made him a spare anyway in case this happens again. I made a spare for myself too that I plan to keep in my glove compartment.

My spare key is on DH’s key ring.
