LonelyHunter24:  hi, yes I do have a stand in ring that is similar to my original engagement ring. I decided to get one when my engagement ring was in the jewellers getting resized and I missed not having a ring on my finger. I haven’t actually worn it yet as I will only wear it when my ring is unavailable (in the jewellers getting cleaned etc) as I love my engagement ring and the sentiment behind it. But my ring is insured. Why not look into getting yours insured, I did mine through T H March and they were really reasonable. Here is both my rings on fiancé’s finger with a peek of his ring. Can you guess which is the real engagement ring????

I recently ordered a stand in ring set. It’s a pretty small CZ bezel set in a plain silver band, with a plain silver band to match for once we are engaged. My e ring has a halo and side stones and my wedding band will be a half eternity diamond band.

That said, mind is purely for when I physically don’t have my e ring /set. I get free yearly rhodium plating (and they’ll check all the prongs etc) so I plan on taking advantage of that, but didn’t want to be without a ring for a few weeks every year.

If you’re planning on wearing it every day then I would get a design you love. Probably not the same style as your e ring but it will need to be something you’re happy having on your finger over your current rings.

I don’t have a stand in ring. But if I were to get one, I’d get something  completely different than what I have. I’d probably get a gemstone like a peach sapphire set in rose gold.

I have a band that I wear when I don’t want to want to risk losing my  e-ring and wedding band (such as when we are at the beach).

TBH, I think it’s a little strange to have a stand in to wear every day. When will you wear your e-ring and wedding ring? Why not just get insurance to cover it just in case something does happen again.

FWIW, if I got a stand in with stones in it I would want one that looked very similar to my e-ring.

I would put the money into insuring the ring I already had instead of buying something else.

I don’t really see the point in having an engagement ring if one is afraid to wear it. I, too, would put the money toward insurance so that I wouldn’t be afraid to wear the rings I had.  FWIW, CZ and gold plated rings will not last very long. CZ clouds over time, and gold plating will wear away, especially with everyday wear. You could easily find yourself purchasing a new spare every other year (every year if your skin tends to wear away gold plating like many people), and that gets fairly costly and very inconvenient in pretty short order.

I have a stand in ring from Berricle. I wear it on vacations and when my ring is being cleaned. My rings are insured but I still don’t like the idea of losing my ring or diamond while travelling and all the hassle that could involve.

My stand in ring (which was only $35):

I just got a great stand-in from Emitations for $30 that looks pretty much exactly like my real one. I plan on wearing it while my ring has to get sent away to be sized/polished and when I travel abroad. But otherwise, I agree with PPs that I feel like the safest place for my real e-ring is on my finger and that it seems silly to use the stand-in that often when you have your real one right there.
