What time is your ceremony/reception and at what time of the year? If it gets dark early you could always have it after food but before dancing. And even if you have to ‘break up’ the night a bit, I think it could work. Have the sparklers on display somewhere with a sign that says ‘Please take one, sparkler photo op at 5:30!’ or something along those lines.

Im a UK bee so i know we tend to have our weddings set out a bit different from US bees…

i did sparklers as our ‘entrance’ before we cut the cake and did our 1st dance. our evening guests turned up at 7:30 so we did this at 8. was a great way to make our evening guests feel fully involved and include anyone that was going to leave early – my gran was able to participate… which she wouldnt have been able to if we did this as an exit as she left after our 1st dance.

For every 1 great sparkler photo, there are probably 10 that are lousy. My daughter’s friend bought sparklers, for her daughter’s wedding. In hindsight, she said it was a mistake. Her exact words were “a bunch of drunks careening around the parking lot, with fire.”

First, make sure your locality allows it; many don’t allow fireworks. Second. make sure your venue allows it. I would guess that few would allow it inside (speaking from the US).  Many don’t allow tapered candles – only ones with sides covered with glass, like votives.

And yes, only expect about half of the guests to stay, until the very end. If it’s on your website – asking people to participate whenever you set your time, and in your ceremony program, etc., many will comply with your timing. (I couldn’t, as anything burning triggers a severe asthma attack).

Steph77: thanks! i would deffo put a couple of sparklers aside too – then slip out with your hubby later on in the evening and have a play just the two of you and the photographer… one of my favourite photos is where we did this!! our day and evening coordinator helped for this shot!
