7pm ceremony @ a catholic church followed by 8pm reception; i want to incorporate sparklers but i’m not sure if this should be done at the end of the ceremony or as a send-off at the end of the reception? rice and bubbles and all that are usually done after the ceremony, right?

I think you can do it either at the end of the ceremony or as a send-off at the end of the reception. First, I would check with your church and reception venue because they might have restrictions on what can be used (i.e. you can use bubbles inside the church and sparklers outside, but no birdseed or rice anywhere on the property). Good luck!

I agree with Mrs. Spring…first check and make sure it can be used at both, or what the restrictions are. Typically however, I think it is done at the end of the reception.

I love the idea of sparklers, and want to use them in our wedding too. But think about the following:
– what time will you be walking out the door from your ceremony? Will it be dark enough for sparklers? Will it be too dark for photography?
– Remember you’re hading your guests FIRE. I just worry about a weddign with a lot of small children in fun party dresses…
But, overall, a super fun idea! Especially if you’re getting married after the 4th of July and can get them on sale!

We’re doing sparklers as our send-off after the reception. It’ll be after 11:30pm and dark enough to have that beautiful glow. As for safety, we purchased the 20 inch sparklers, rather than the 36 which can get out of hand. We have enough so that people can hold one in each hand if they like. We’re not too concerned with people setting each other on fire. There’s a lot of room for everyone to stand and with our DOC help, as well as the venue help, I’m excited to see it!

I think it looks best at the end of the reception. It will be dark enough by then and will be a fun send off!
