@alyssaC:  Why do they even bother to get together if it’s just an annoying day to them?

I’d probably starting hinting that you’re not going to come if there’s nothing going on anyway, and will spend your time with people that actually think the day is special.  But I’ve never gained any major in-law points, so maybe don’t listen to me…

@alyssaC:  Wow. I say you should be yourself and ignore them. Don’t let them ruin your fun! I would also make sure your FI talks to them. Good luck!

My family plays games and cards on Christmas. That’s my favorite part. πŸ™‚ We do eat a big lunch and exchange gifts but DHs family is very different. They like to stay up on christmas eve, pray, sing, go to church, pray, then put baby Jesus in the nativity and then open presents at 1 am. Every family celebrates or doesn’t celebrate differently. πŸ™‚ It took some time getting used to but it’s worth it to just go along with DHs family traditions because its important to him.

I’m also someone who isn’t big on the whole Jesus thing so maybe you come off too strong for them and that’s why they give you a hard time?

@alyssaC:

Playing games is fun.  Just go in with a good attitude and make the best of it.  Maybe your Christmas spirit will rub off on them.
