@QueenOfSerendip:  You should know better than to give a safe “other” option. You will either get everyone saying they are the settler or “other” because they are perfectly equal 🙂

I am crazy about my FI. Like madly in love with him, head over heels crazy. However, in the past, when we’ve gone through a couple of rocky patches, I’ve got the feeling that he loves me just that little bit more than I love him. If anything, that makes me feel like the luckiest girl in the world… I’m not sure how I wound up with such an awesome guy who loves me so much, but I truly feel like I won the lottery.

@QueenOfSerendip:  And all “other” means is that “we are perfect, we have perfect lives, and we love each other exactly the same, always.” Even an anonymous poll people feel that way, lol. It’s not just about typing it out for people to see anymore.

I am DEFINITELY the reacher! DH makes like 100K a year and looks like a model! And he’s 6’2″. Hot!

I’m just a preschool teacher, and when we met, I was a waitress living in a mobile home! I’m totally the reacher.

There’s an episode of How I Met Your Mother about this, in which everyone agrees that Marshall is the reacher and Lily is the settler. But in the show it was more about who was more attractive, etc., not about who loved who more.

In the way that HIMYM talks about it, we both always joke about how he’s the reacher and I’m the settler (based entirely on attractiveness), but of course, it’s all just a joke!

@BrandNewBride:  Just wanted to say that you are BEAUTIFUL, and you and your DH look perfect together! There is no imbalance there 🙂

I am definitely the reacher. My FI is way too good for me, but he (for whatever reason) loves me and I’m thrilled. Lol

SO always says (half seriously?) that he performed the biggest coup in history by getting me to love him and that he has the much better end of the deal, so I voted accordingly, even though I think he’s the best man I’ve ever met. 😛

@QueenOfSerendip:  Not sure because I feel the “reacher/settler” roles are definied very vaguely.  My husband has actually brought something like this up (he calls it “who got the short end” lol), but he bases this solely on traditional physical attractiveness.  He ALWAYS says that I got the short end because he thinks I’m better looking than him.  However, I don’t work and he provides everything, so in that sense I would think I’m the “reacher” and that he’s the “settler/got the short end.”  Either way, we’re madly in love with each other.

Physically, the settler. It’s not extreme or anything. It feels like such a harsh thing to point out, but I’m a little better looking. I’m a model, and he could be one too, but he would be asked to bulk up a little first.

Intellectually, the reacher. He’s an engineering student, and among the top in his class. I am not stupid by any means though. I am a university student as well, but he is definitely smarter than me. He is a math whiz and I BARELY skid by.

I wish we could switch, I’d rather be the smarter one than the prettier one.

ETA: He also makes much more money than me and always will. I plan on becoming a therapist and he will make about 3 times more than me out of grad school.

Geez, the more I think about it, the more I realize that I might be the reacher after all. He has a lot more to offer in our relationship.

If we’re going on looks, FI would say I’m, the settler.
