  • Wedding: May 2014

I have met the former Govener General of Canada (she’s good friends with my Grandmother)

Both my grandparents are quite well known Canadian Art Circles

I’ve met several Canadian TV ‘stars’ (Mary Walsh, Marthe Benard, Andy Jones, mostly all Newfoundlanders)

My ex’s brother is in the NHL, as are a couple of my sister’s childhood friends

This is not all that exciting, but my husband works for a local television station so we know a lot of locally famous people.  One of the “on air talent” people from his work was invited, but was not able to come to our wedding.

Funny story- back when we were just dating, we went to a wedding of one of his co-workers, and one of the weathermen from his station was there. It’s hard to admit now that i’ve hung out with all of these people a number of times, but I was slightly star-struck at the time. (it doesnt help that this guy is quite good-looking). I may have said to my (then boyfriend) husband, “oooo he’s even more dreamy in person”. (I may have had a couple cocktails).

And what does he do? that next Monday at work he tells the guy that I said that about him! so embarassing…

We have attended a lot of “going away” or “retirement” parties for his work that take place in public settings, and the group has gotten a lot of stares, and random people coming up and talking to the “famous” people, but they always are super nice to the strangers. 🙂

ex-MIL was a long-time state legislator, so some state senators, former governors, mayor. But I’m not sure it counts as famous!

Nothing wedding-related, I’m afraid. However…

I ran into Joe Sakic (retired Avs player) at the Denver airport a couple weeks ago! I was like whoa… not expecting that. I didn’t talk to him, I just stared in disbelief as I walked by to catch my next plane haha.

My mom once had a conversation with Eric Braeden (Victor Newman from Young & Restless) and got his autograph for me. She spotted Sean Connery many, many years ago at an airport but did not talk to him.

My sister in law ran into Mr. Bean last year and Roger Moore (James Bond) last week.

I’ve met various NHL players/personnel before at meet & greet autograph sessions.

I once almost rented an apartment that was owned by an NHL player. Sadly I only dealt with his wife!

@keranos:  it depends on your definitions of ‘know’ and ‘famous’. i have interacted with Anderson Cooper numerous times (he often comes in where I work), and i am close friends with the football kicker who came out as gay and started this whole pro-sports-players-coming-out-as-gay domino effect. i also know a chef that was nominated for a James Beard, if you know what that is. a friend of mine made it to the top 13 on american idol this season…

A-listers though? i don’t know any.

i have MET or seen in person a number of A-listers: Ron White, President Obama, the Dalai Lama, Bill Cosby, John Mellencamp…but i wouldn’t count that as ‘knowing’ them. shaking their hand (or holding their dog, in Ron White’s case) is definitely not the same thing. haha

We have a lot of friends that are huge in the voice acting world — they do tv shows, commercials, video games, etc. I highly doubt anyone here would know their names, but we had some of them at our wedding. 🙂
