Spinning – how often?

i usually spin 2x a week.  the only way your legs are going to get big is if you spin with heavy, heavy (and I mean heavy) resistance for long periods of time.

I spin 4-6 times a week. My legs never got bigger, but they sure did get sexier. Lol. I love the way they look and I work out HARD every time I go. They haven’t gotten bulky in the year and a half I’ve been riding.

SuperKate:  I was initially scared (about 8 yrs ago) about spinning making my legs big (since they’re already pretty big), but spinning doesn’t build bulk at all. spinning isn’t similar at all to weight lifting. It’s cardio only pretty much. Just like you aren’t worried about building bulk from running or the elliptical, spinning is the same. I recently bought a home spin bike so I spin nearly every day now, but used to do classes 3-4 times a week for years and it only helped me lose weight, I never got bigger at all from spinning. To understand better- Instead of thinking of the spin bike resistance as weight, think of it like biking up a steep hill or running up a steep hill- that’s a more accurate comparison. It’s not weight lifting. Just like running or biking up a steep hill, your legs will burn and feel tired, but you aren’t building bulk or muscles really.
