How many degrees removed are you to someone famous? Actor/comedian/musician, etc. One Degree? Zero? The whole six?
For a long time I was one degree removed from Elijah Wood (former acting coach starred with him in Everything is Illuminated.)
Now, I’m one degree away from pretty much everyone in Hollywood. A college acquaintance is now an entertainment reporter and has interviewed everyone including Madonna, Meryl Streep, Oprah, Joesph Gordon Levitt (swoon!)
So wishing I knew this kid better….

I’m two degrees from a lot of celebs, since an aunt of one of my BMs is an agent in California.

Hmm…I never really thought about this. I would say I’m probably 2-3 degrees from a bunch of celebs. I work for a really large cable company who also owns a network. I’m also in HR, so I’ve spoken to some assistants to some stars before. Kind of neat when you think about it!

Hmm… Bart Oats from the 49ers used to go to my church and his son was in all my classes. So I guess zero from him and then 1 degree from a lot of football players and potentially other celebreties. Also my old roommate in college was friends with Donny Osmonds kids, but that’s it!
ETA: I forgot I also have met Patrick Ewing when he played for the Knicks and the other guys on the team at that time, because my dad worked with him and we would go into the lockerroom after games sometimes to say hi. So I guess I have football and basketball stars covered 🙂

People come through my work periodically. I haven’t spoken at length with any of the celebs, but I’ve said hi to at least one! I joked with someone who has a TV show.

I know a few. But they’re British and even people in the UK have no idea who they are. I am two degrees from a few (mostly minor) celebs…
They include: Tim Minchin and Michael Ball (trying to think of people you’ll know…). Joss Stone.

Apparently 3 degrees (related) from David Suzuki.

I’m two degrees from the Queen of England – my childhood best friend’s cousin married one of the Queen’s grandsons.
2 or 3 away from a bunch of actors, as my parents and my best friend grew up and went to schools where a lot of Canadian celebrities started out.
1 away from Sidney Crosby, who plays in the NHL.

I’m a few degrees away from Michael Caine. My mom’s stepsister competed in Miss Guyana in the 60s. Her stepsister was the runner up to Shakira Baksh, who went on to become compete in the Miss World competition and marry Michael Caine.

3 – The SO’s best friend works for Mediaworks, my friend’s sister works for Sky… NZ is a really small country (approx. 5 million total population). The degree of sepearation between you and an NZ “celebrity” will always be pretty small.
That being said, my aunt’s ex husband worked with Steven Spielberg and is friends with the Sultan of Brunei – so the same number of degrees to major players there

I used to work in film and television, so I know/have met a lot of celebs. I’ve kept in touch with a couple. Darling Husband is getting to have a few national celebs on his client roster so that’s kind of neat too 🙂

It’s all random for me and not very interesting.
A kid I went to school with is the stepson of Tug McGraw, a girl I lived across from in college is starring on Broadway now, and I pass by lots of celebrities on the street (totally doesn’t count, but it’s always exciting to see famous people). i think there are a couple other random associations, but I can’t think of them now.

One of my friends from college is Jeff Bridges’ daughter, so one!

@Roe: Totally random, but Elijah Wood was the first celeb I ran into when I moved back to LA last fall. He was on his way into the Director’s Guild.
As far degrees of celebrity go for myself, not to brag, but I can’t even begin to count:) A lot of zeros and ones for sure. My ex-husband is an Industry exec and I’ve met everyone from the head of Fox Television to Tom Hanks (and Rita), to Kevin Costner, Bryan Cranston, lucy Liu, Rosie O’Donnell, of all people. lol Most of these people I met because they were neighbors or their kids went to school with mine and they were friends with their kids.
One of my friends was in Titanic. Another was a semi-famous t.v. actress. In yoga class alone I’ve met half the regular Lifetime movie actresses. I know one of the writer/producers of Drop Dead Diva, etc. etc. I can’t turn on the t.v. or go to a movie without seeing someone that I’ve met or at least had a passing encounter with.
Here in LA it’s no big deal. Or at least you’d better act like it’s no big deal. lol
