I really like the first dress I tried on and it will probably be “my dress”. Of course, I’ve had to try on a whole bunch of others just to be sure!
My mom ended up going back to get the first dress she ever tried on, too (in 1966 – my parents have been married for 45 (and a half) years!). I’ve had quite a few friends say that they ended up going back to their first dress, so I was just wondering how common that is.
Did you end up choosing the first dress you ever tried on?

not at all.
I literally picked about 20 that I liked, not loved. I am also very picky – I tried on about 100 all together!

The first dress I ever put on was at DB. All I remember was feeling like a roll of toilet paper (I didn’t like the material) and that I was so incredibly hot. The fabric didn’t breathe at all. So no, that was not the dress I picked 🙂
I probably tried on 20 dresses and my dress was smack dab in the middle.

Yup. I went to one store. She picked out one of each style and we started with the one I bought. I tried on the 3 others though, then 3 more in the style that I liked but everything kept coming back to the first one. We had an appointment at another shop, and I felt silly just buying the first dress, but I knew that was it. I’ve never regretted it. Although trying on more dresses would have been fun.

@KristenGotMarried: I also did the obligatory search at DB and didn’t care for the material of the dresses I tried on. Although the first dress I tried on had a nice design it wasn’t for me.
My search took about 60 dresses or so.

The first one was the one. I tried on several others after that but none of them compared to that first one. Someone actually said it was like the dress was made for me. <3

@MrsConnick: That’s exactly how my dress appointment went where we got the first dress I tried on. I really think that the salesperson in charge of us listened to my dress desires well and went with it. She had me try on different fabrics like satin, etc. I remember feeling icky in satin but a beautiful bride in organza. My dress decision was between a beautiful lace dress and the one that I chose. I went with the first one because I just felt so amazing in it. It felt like me.

Nope! I did really like it at the time, but others surpassed it and I picked #10.

I liked it, tried on about 5 more but they didn’t compare. It had what I said I wanted: straps, bling, dropped waist, rouched bodice… and most importantly it was wayyy under budget. I budgeted $2000 but this puppy was $749 once I knew I really like it, the price point was the thing that pushed me to say Yes.

Yup, first one was The One. I tried on five more to be sure, but with every dress I kept thinking, “I want to put the first one back on again!”

I loved the first one I tried on so much. I kept staring at it in the window before the store opened (we got there super early b/c it was a discount store). I tried it on ‘just for fun’ My consultant put that dress on me first. I was in awe with how good it made me look. And the details were outstanding! I came out and everyone in the room everyone loved how the dress looked. Then, my Future Mother-In-Law said ‘no, the color is too dark.’ I tried on about 15 more dresses, but I kept thinking about that one. At the end, it was between the first two dresses that I tried on. I really really liked one, but I loved the first dark ivory dress. I went for that one!.
Here she is!

@vmec: Every time I see your dress I get a twinge of dress envy. It’s absolutely gorgeous, and you have the most perfect figure for it. I could never pull it off but man, you sure do. Sheesh.

Wow, ladies, it looks like (right now) about 1/4 of us go for dress #1! The dresses some of you posted were BEAUtiful, so I can see why you chose them. For all of you who’ve said they went back to dress #1, your stories and feelings sound so much like mine. I just couldn’t wait to be back in it…and everyone (even strangers in the store) were like “OH – that one is for YOU”! 🙂
@Dec-bride: I will add another category to the poll. 🙁

@KristenGotMarried: aww, thanks 🙂 I’ll have to admit, I get dress envy and say the “next one” would be… love ruffles 😛
