Another thread I just posted got me thinking: for those of you who may be married to people who have careers that require them to work on holidays (healthcare field, service men & women, etc), do you feel obligated–or do you WANT–to visit their parents on Christmas? I was thinking about this from my own POV and thinking into the future to when DH is doing his residency and when he’s an attending in a hospital–there will 100% certainly be Thanksgivings and Christmases that he’ll miss, and I am fully preapred for that. Then I thought to myself: would I feel as though I’d need to visit his family even if he wasn’t there? We’re not super close, so I know it would differ from person to person, espeically if you have a close relationship with your in-laws. And if your in-laws live in the same city as you or closer to than your own parents. But at this point, I don’t think I’d feel obligated. What are your thoughts?
