My favorite was Bindi, but that one recently closed. My new favorite is Distrito (AMAZING food and drinks). Other top choices include Green Eggs Cafe or Morning Glory (both for brunch/lunch), Supper, Amanda, and Fork.
This might be better in the Philly board; not sure how to request it be moved.
My favorites include La Viola, Parc, Melograno, Amada, and Buddakan. There are too many awesome places to pick just one!
@futuremrskline: YES to Distrito! And you also reminded me of Barbuzzo (same owner as Bindi).
@claireos: Blood orange margaritas. Nothing better.
I like R2L a lot. FI and I went there for restaurant week last time, and I tried escargot that was freakin' delicious.
We're going to Smokin Betty's for restaurant week in three weeks. We love restaurant week, we always try to go somewhere with interesting food, not just typical Italian or steakhouse fare. Smokin' Betty's is offering a stuffed poussin that I'm dying to try this time around.
If you like vegan food, Govinda's is like stupid good. We have friends who are vegan and have a big BBQ every year, and they get Govinda's stuff to supplement what they cook. It's amazing going to a BBQ knowing I can eat everything there without asking what's in it (I have a stomach condition and I can't eat red meat or pig products- yeah, no bacon, it sucks) and everything from Govinda's is always incredible. And nothing in life compares to Govinda's blueberry cheesecake, vegan or not- I'd eat that over Cheesecake Factory cheesecake.
Although I will say that nothing compares to Lorenzo's on South Street. No seats, rude staff, and it's probably filthy, but DAMN that pizza is good when you're drunk!
i love so many; mostly smaller places like dmitri's. seriously, @claireos try it! reasonably priced and just so delicous. get the shrimp pil pil and spinach pie. i think i'm going to go this weekend!
also love la viola, tinto, raw, monk's (for mussels & fries), memphis taproom (off the beaten path in fishtown, but walking distance to my house), kanella, jones, pietro's and applebees. you can guess which one isn't real :)
best meal of all time: morimoto
most overrated meals: buddakhan, moshulu
@relaxedabout it: I forgot about Morimoto- I haven't been there in probably six years. That's the place you just have to go with the chef's tasting menu- it's just that good that you can trust anything that comes out, as long as you don't have food allergies or anything.
Anyone been to Sabrina's for brunch?? YUMMO! I think there are 2 locations, one in south philly and another near the museums. Kind of a hole in the wall place though.
Oh yeah, also Sang Kee in Chinatown AND the Imperial Inn for the BEST dim sum (in philly at least).
@philabride2bee: La Viola is amazing. I love BYOBs. My fiance & I went one evening before an orchestra concert & got a lovely seat outside. The food is delicious & fresh!
@relaxedabout it: I am DYING to go to Morimoto's. I've heard nothing but good things about that place. One complaint I've heard is that it's a little too expensive. But expensive is relative. If I'm blown away and we're treating ourselves for a special night that hasn't happened in a while out it's totally worth it in my book. Hopefully we'll get to go soon.
Anyone ever eat at Nineteen at Rittenhouse Square? That's another one that looks like has an AMAZING menu. :)
@philabride2bee: I haven't tried Barbuzzo yet, but I have heard great things! I will have to take your suggestion, and check it out!
@pinkfrog: I can't wait to check out Govinda's- I am always looking for good veggie food in the city! BBQ sounds awesome!
@stammie16: Sabrinas!! Yes! I love that place, so good! If you like Sabrinas I highly suggest Morning Glories, Green Eggs Cafe, or Honeys for brunch as well!!
@futuremrskline: When you say Honeys, is that Honeys sit n eat? FH's parents go there sometimes, they like it!
Oh, I totally forgot another place in Philly that I just LOVE: Fogo de Chao!!! Yes, its a chain, but I've been to Brazil a few times, and they have Fogo de Chao there and the locals even says its pretty good. I love Brazilian churrascurias!
@Stammie16: Fogo de Chau is amazing!!! My FI (then, BF) went there to celebrate 6 months of dating!
The men in their gauchos with all that tasty meat! And the salad bar is to die for! So many fresh options! Love that place! I miss it so much!
@RayRayFurious: LOL I call the gauchos the "meat men" And my favorite cut of meat is the picanha - its freakin amazing!
DH and I love Chima's Brazillian Steak house. its a chain but we love it there, The food is to die for
Union Trust and Del Friscos for steak, oh yes!
Buddakan is really great (Kobe beef, yummm).
Postiano Coast for amazing calamari.
Still dying to try out Amada and Morimoto.
OMG yes I love love love Sabrinas! Their brunch is to die for! I also enjoy Cuba Libre a lot.
