Just noticed on the thread where the girl was bummed about her proposal how many Bee’s were sharing their stories of their simple proposals. There were some really sweet stores and I wanna hear them!
For me, mine was so simple, but so perfect for us.
We were in bed (I was in one of his old t shirts) I knew he was up to something and he told me he had a surprise for me. Now FI would bring home treats for me alot so I started asking if it was ice cream, cookies etc. He eventually realised I wasn’t going to let it go, got up, put on some pants, got me to sit on the edge of the bed wrapped in the duvet, close my eyes and when I opened them he was down on one knee. He said a beautiful speech, asked me to marry him and we got back into bed for cuddles.
Lets hear yours…

@MsChandler: Aw mine is more of a mutual aggreement over a proposal. We were talking about insurance and the future and we basically aggreed that we were going to get married before he turned 26. He is going to formally propose sometime soon. My guess is new years.

I LOVE the way we decided to get married.
We were talking about what our future looked like. Should we move in soon? What were our next steps. Our parents knew that we were planning next steps so we had a chance to speak to both sets of parents about their opinions. And one day he said, let’s get married. He took a ring from my right hand and put it on my left as a placeholder.
He asked me to start planning and we immediately did so, but without announcing it to the rest of the fam – just our parents.
Two months later he took me to a small restaurant where we’d gone on one of our first dates. It was still early afternoon, there weren’t a lot of people there – almost empty. No big to do and I had just come from work so, I had on a work-dress …nothing fancy. It was sweeth though that the women there knew us and gave us our old table. Even though I was expecting a ring, I wasn’t expecting it that day because the day before we’d had a great date and he hadn’t done it, so why would he do it on this normal early dinner?
Well, we started talking about how excited we were about everything and all of a sudden he got on one knee and pulled out a ring (designed by him) and asked me to marry him.
Afterwards we went to his parents home to share the news, then he brought me home and we told mine.
That’s it! Nothing surprising, with tons of candlelight and romantic violinists…just us.

I just don’t get why the “big proposal” or the “surprise proposal” matters so much.

I think ours was pretty romantic, but it definitely wasn’t a big production.
We dated long distance through college, and when we started to get serious and talk about the future, I told him that my dream proposal would happen early in the morning, in bed, since I didn’t get to wake up next to him nearly enough.
Fast forward a few years, and we had agreed on a timeline and looked at rings, etc., so I knew he was planning to propose. Being extremely impatient, I pestered him mercilessly, and he would always respond with proposal fake-outs, like getting down on one knee to tie his shoes during lovey moments and asking me to “maaaaaa….rk the doctor’s appointment in the calendar.”
So one Sunday morning, I woke up and he said some lovey proposal stuff, and I told him to shut his pie hole and go back to sleep. Didn’t believe him until he pulled out the ring.

@MrsP0801: Aw thats so sweet! I dont know why but it’s these sweet, simple proposals that make me tear up rather than the big ones!

@MsChandler: I had lost my job earlier that day and was really depressed about it. My FI said he would do whatever I wanted that night in an effort to cheer me up and so we went to Disneyland that night. I was mega depressed and saying that there was no way he would stay with me since I lost my job. My FI isn’t romantic at all, but as we were entering the park he said the most romantic thing “I thought you were great before this job and I still think you’re great.”
He actually proposed to me by the side of the castle, next to the bathrooms after the park had closed. Not one for formality he handed me the box and said “I think you could use this.”
In the end some random guy walking by high-fived us and said ‘way to go’.
Somehow my FI proposed in not the most romantic way, but in exactly the perfect way.

Our joint proposal was not a surprise to us since we planned to do it on our anniversary, but the method was a surprise to (now) DW 🙂
I came home from work as usual, and she had cheese, crackers, and wine out as usual, and when she turned away for a second, I stuck a knife I bought on etsy that said “Will You Marry Me?” into the cheese and waited for her to notice it 🙂 Then we did a ring exchange, texted our friends, and went out to celebrate!
Cute, simple, authentic. Wouldn’t have changed it!

Not sure if people would consider this romantic or not, but it is very fitting for our relationship.
I met my fiance on the first day of 7th grade, when we were 12 in 2003. A few years back, we figured out that the day we met was August 25, 2003. This past August was our 10 year anniversary of the day we met. So on August 24 (we were already in the area that day so it made more sense than waiting til the 25th) he took me to the middle school where we met and proposed. It was a Saturday so the school was closed, we just stood near the main doors and talked about some of the things that we had done there and where our lives have taken us since. No one else was around, except for a few kids who were walking their dog in the parking lot.

My husband proposed to me as we were doing P90X lol! Once we got the ring about a week later we announced it to our family, had a romantic dinner just the two of us, and then came home and watched Dexter and drank Jager. That’s just how we roll.

My FI had this big plan of taking me on a weekend getaway to propose, but the ring was apparently burning a hole in his pocket, so he suggested that we go out to each one night during the week – I thought nothing of it. Sitting at a quiet restaurant in my work clothes, he proposed (but no on-the-knee kind of proposal).
So we decided to turn our scheduled weekend getaway into an engagement weekend and I asked him to propose to me about 10 times over that long weekend haha

@MsChandler: We had picked out and put the deposit on the ring together. He went to pick it up after work about a week later. I figured he’d hide it somewhere til he was ready. His great hiding place? On top of OUR desk lol. So he tortured me like that for a few days. over the weekend we were eating lunch and my mom texted me that she was going to stop by. I said hey my moms stopping over and he said ok. So do you wanna marry me? My daughter was standing there and she started cracking up. (Shes 10) she ran to get the ring and he put it on my finger and asked me nicely. It was goofy and random but that’s him. I didn’t even think hed ask. I half expected to wake up with it just on my finger. Hes so unromantic but he’s all mine 🙂

Well… we were on the couch hanging out and laughing and I said something along the lines of “will you marry me?” just dreaming. (we had talked about it PLENTY prior, but had not as a couple set a time frame for getting engaged)
And he completely stopped and looked at me and said “are you being serious?”
and I said laughing “Uhmm…. of course I am”
and he said “like really really serious?”
and I said “I am dead serious”
and back and forth for a little while, you get the idea.
Then hegot up and had the ring hiding in his closet.
And before I even knew what was going on, we were engaged :))))

My fi proposed during a poker game with all of our (guy) friends there. It wasn’t “romantic,” but the boys worked really hard to come up with an idea that wasn’t cliche and was “us.” It was absolutly perfect. He had a friend distract me and put a hand down in front of me. When I picked up the cards they read Will you marry me? I looked over and he was holding the most beautiful ring ever. Because our friends were there, it’s on video and my reaction is priceless. It was perfect.
