I had this website as a favorite. It allows for you to put in your zip code and see how much the average wedding costs in your area (does not include honeymoon or engagement ring).
I'm curious on how right this is and how we all compare. Put your zip code into the website to get the average in your area and then let us know how you compare. You don't have to share your budget or what you spent if you don't want to but just let us know how you compare.
It told me Hartford County, CT spend between $20,486 and $34,144 total for Market Summary and the guest count on average is 141 to 155
We had 120 guests and it cost us $40k
(reminder this is not honeymoon or eg ring)
Well it doesn't have my county. This is a neighboring area:
On average, couples that live in or travel to Orange township: Delaware County, OH spend between $16,606 and $27,676 total for Market Summary
We came in just barely under the low end.
On average, couples that live in or travel to Greensboro, GA spend between $18,997 and $31,661 total for Market Summary
The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 138 and 152. A single guest could add between $157 and $192 to the overall cost of your wedding
We were within average
Thes a really big range!! I'm think I'll be coming in around 25k for 180 guest.
On average, couples that live in or travel to Boston, MA spend between $22,021 and $36,701
On average, couples that live in or travel to Houston, TX spend between $18,862 and $31,436 total for Market Summary
The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 150 and 164. A single guest could add between $144 and $176 to the overall cost of your wedding.
I'm coming in a little over...about 5k if you take into account the number of guests we are having (200-250 guests).
They didn't have anything for my zip code but for the neighboring city, on average, couples that live in or travel to Stone Mountain, GA spend between $17,327 and $28,879 based on 131 and 145 guests.
My budget without the honeymoon (and other misc that aren't in most people's budget) is ~$17k for 235 people which is under the average.
This is what it said for me...
"On average, couples that live in or travel to East Goshen township: Chester County, PA spend between $21,930 and $36,550 total for Market Summary
The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 169 and 183. A single guest could add between $150 and $183 to the overall cost of your wedding."
I can definitely see why it is that high in my area but there was no way in hell I could afford that. My budget was 10k and I spent 11k. I think I did a really good job at keeping it as low as I did. Oh, I had 130 guests and the cost per guest was about $100 and that included everything not just food.
so fun!
On average, couples that live in or travel to Charlotte, NC spend between $18,636 and $31,060 total for Market Summary
The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 145 and 159. A single guest could add between $147 and $180 to the overall cost of your wedding.

The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 139 and 153. A single guest could add between $180 and $220 to the overall cost of your wedding
That doesn't really make sense though, because if a single guest can add $180, how can 139-153 guests cost so little?
Anyway, we were way above the average, I guess!
We're right in the middle of the average range for Atlanta. We'll probably have about 150 guests.
On average, couples that live in or travel to Fort Myers Shores, FL spend between $17,824 and $29,706 total for Market Summary
We'll be spending less than half of what they consider to be the "low" end for my area.
@hilsy85: I don't live in NYC but those numbers that the site gave seem off. I would think having a wedding in NYC would be super expensive. The numbers the site gave is about what my city is. That doesn't make sense.
"On average, couples spend between $26,759 and $44,598 total. The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 255 and 269. A single guest could add between $123 and $150 to the overall cost of your wedding."
From what I've heard and from what our friends have done in their own weddings, these are lower numbers than I was actually expecting!! We are just under this budget at $25k for 120 people.
On average, couples that live in or travel to Clearwater, FL spend between $19,493 and $32,489 total for Market Summary
The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 117 and 131. A single guest could add between $189 and $231 to the overall cost of your wedding.
We're over. Granted we're paying for a FL wedding with NYC salaries so I don't feel so terrible.
spend between $22,156 and $36,926 total for Market Summary
The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 155 and 169. A single guest could add between $164 and $201 to the overall cost of your wedding
Um, wow. My little suburb is just as much as Boston.
We are having 100 guests with a budget of 10,000 $3000
@hilsy85: I didn't get it either! Living in NYC, I would have been in heaven if my wedding cost $36K!!
This is fascinating!
This is also where Californians and New York folk freak out. Hahaha.
On average, couples that live in or travel to Pleasanton, CA spend between $24,141 and $40,235 total for Market Summary
The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 206 and 220. A single guest could add between $136 and $166 to the overall cost of your wedding.
We barely made the average. We're not done planning yet, but our budget is about $40,000 for an anticipated 150-170 guests or so.
On average, couples that live in or travel to [location] spend between $17,012 and $28,353 total. The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 144 and 158.
We had 135ish guests and spent around 10K, so definitely under budget.
I love that about the same amount of people were above and below the average...thus proving the average :-).
We were the average cost - smack dab in the middle!
@hilsy85: The cost is just avg guest count by avg dollars. It's not a per plate cost.
$19,809 and $33,015 for San Diego. (With 151-165 guests)
We spent right over $20k, but only had 93 people. So I guess that puts us in the average range. Our figure does not include rings or honeymoon.
@crayfish: I was thinking the same thing. It's been perfectly the average the entire time.
St. Clair County, MI spend between $16,515 and $27,525 with 130 and 144 guests
we spent around 10-13k with 115 guests. Most people have their weddings in venues- we were married on my parents farm where the reception was also held. We had control over everything :)

I am at around 11 - 12k for 115 people.
I voted that it was over based on the literal budget #s, but I didn't notice the amount of guests it was assuming. With that adjusted, I guess we'd actually be more around average.
The site said my area was $19,629 and $32,715 total assuming 142-156 guests.
Our total was right around $19k, for a total of 70 guests.

We had 65 guests and spent $10k. I guess if you figure the total cost divided by the number of guests, then we came to $153 per guest. Realistically, if you subtract the things that don't have anything to do with the guests (dress, hair and makeup, attendant gifts, rings, officiant, etc), that puts us around $130-$138/pp.
We are between 1,000 and 3,000 lower than the low end of our area, depending on what we decide on our after party. But we have about 1/3 the guests of the low amount of guests.
On average, couples that live in or travel to Los Angeles, CA spend between $19,719 and $32,865 total for Market Summary. The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 144 and 158.
We spent 35K (including rings) so just above the average. We only had 60 guests. We went for quality over quantity since his family's not large and mine is not local. We made our choices as far as venue etc first and then capped the guestlist at what we could afford.
This is a really big range: Bucks County, PA spend between $18,275 and $30,459 total for Market Summary.
Our budget is $32,000 but it looks like we may be able to come around $28,000.

The totals above are based on the average number of guests estimated between 220 and 234. A single guest could add between $140 and $172 to the overall cost of your wedding.
Also well above this average.
Although we are paying $150 per guest so that is in range. It's only above average when you factor in the photo, florist, etc
@pinkshoes: Ours is in Boston too. We're looking at around 35K for 170 guests, so it seems pretty right on to me.
Ours is between $24,000 and $40,000. and we came in slightly over the lower end but ours was only for 85 guests.
@lauren810c: I know! I mean, I know it's possible to do it for that amount, but it would have meant a veeerry different wedding for us.
@mwitter80: Ah gotcha. Well, the numbers for NYC still seem VERY low to me.
I'm in Canada and cannot use the calculator.
Most people here spend about $10,000, total. We'll be around $8,000.
