Are you and urban girl or a suburban girl?

All my lady friends are downtown babes, personally I LOVE the space of suburbia and uptown life.  I will venture DT for my girls, but would never dream of living there. =)

What about you guys?  What do you prefer? Urban? Or Suburban?

I threw in rural too LOL

Depends on where. SO hates urban life period. I could do either in LA, but probably not in NY.

I'm a girl who grew up in the country, moved to the city and loved it, and now lives in the suburbs (sort of) and don't mind that either...  I can't make my mind up between the three!

All of you country girls have guts. The silence alone would drive me mad, nevermind the isolation.

I don't like the feeling of someone ALWAYS being right up your butt. I also don't like the feeling of being isolated and far away. I think suburbia is a happy medium for me. :)

I have lived in all three, there are advantages to each one. Personally I am enjoying rural life right now, the quiet is nice I could go days without seeing anyone if I really wanted too. I only live 7 mins from town though. I used to live right off a major Highway in Minneapolis, and it was cool that I could walk to work but I think life was too busy. Anyway interesting question.

Kinda both for me. I grew up in the suburbs and want to move out there after we're married (live in the city now). I love city life, but only temporarily. I never planned on living an urban lifestyle forever, so I can definitely appreciate the advantages/disadvantages of each. I could never live a rural life, though. That's too much (little?) for me.

I am aggressively suburban, haha.  I would NEVER live downtown and won't even bother to say all the negative things I personally feel about it (so as not to offend anyone)!  I also don't think I could handle living in a rural area; quite simply, I'm a scaredy cat.  I don't ever plan to leave the burbs and I love it! :)

I like the suburbs. It's nice to be able to have a house with a big yard and have neightbors close by. I like to be close to good restaurants and shopping, so rural wouldn't work for me.

urban, all the way. I mourn each friend who moves to the burbs.

I love the fact that I can walk everywhere. to work, to the grocery store, social events, practically everything.  my car only leaves the garage maybe once a week, tops.

I don't have to work out because I walk so much, and I spend about $25 / month on gas.

I see myself being a city gal for the rest of my life.

Can I pick the Rural suburbs? I don't want any kind of cookie cutter, desperate housewives kind of suburbs, I like my space too much and don't want to hear/have my neighbors stare into my house. But I also really like living within a 10 minute drive of a few resturants and a Walmart. I could NEVER live in a big city. I've been in Houston traffic, Rome, Dublin, Belfast, Dallas, ect  and while they had their charm few a few minutes, I couldn't stand for long the lack of trees, sky, stars, space, or breathable air (smog= BLECK). Too much noise, too many people, too many cars.

We happily live in the 'burbs! Lol. Wouldn't have it any other way. We live in a fairly populated area, but I could NEVER live in the city. I like my space and my green...but not too much of it, lol.

City girl all the way. I love living right in the middle of the action. If I didn't think I would starve, I'd move to NY in a heart beat. Until then, I'm content to be in the center of Houston.

@janie-janie:  Me too! Grew up in suburbia and after 10+ years in new york, have finally accepted that I love the urban life.  I happily trade space for all the convenience of city living, I LOVE being able to get everywhere by foot or subway. And as a new mom, I am able to maintain a lof of my life because of how easy it is to be social, with and without my son :) I mean, I would take a bigger apt if I could afford it but the suburbs scare the crap out of me :)

City girl for sure. I love living in an awesome neighborhood having just about everything in walking or public transit distance. The suburbs scare me with them being too cookie cutter and quiet.

I was big time urban (ie-spending $2700 on rent just so I could live in the city) until I hit 30.  Now I dream of a home in the suburbs within a 5 minutes drive to CVS and Target, quiet, and no traffic.

It's funny how one type of people (Urban/suburb/rural) can actually have fear of the other lifestyles! I can say I am genuinely fearful of living in a place where it's all dark at night, or subdivisions where all the houses look similar. Not saying one is better than another, just funny that thinking about theses things send chills down my spine!

I'm a city girl currently! I lovethe walkability, and actually work on a 110-acre campus that's in a lovely neighborhood of the big city. I don't think I'd like to live in a downtown area, but definitely urban.

That being said, I can definitely see myself moving out to the 'burbs when it comes time to settle down and have a family. Almost all of my friends have already transitioned out, so it's not as fun as it used to be here anymore.

I don't think I could ever do rural life though!

Suburban with rural leanings. We are in a typical suburb now with 1/3 acre and we definitely want more space. I think we'll be happy with a few acres- plenty of room for a compost pile, a garden, room for the dogs to run, some solar panels, and all that other good stuff. :)

Urban, no question.  I love not having/paying for a car.  I love walking everywhere.  I actually don't mind living in a small space at all.  You'd have to drag me kicking and screaming to the suburbs.  And forget rural...I dread visiting my in-laws in the country.

@chasesgirl:  I'm the same way. I want the space of rural but don't want to be completely out in the boonies. I'm too forgetful to be more than 10 minutes from a Target or Wal-Mart.  And I don't want to be too far from a hospital. Between my lack of grace and SO's "Hey ya'll, watch this!"-ness, our future kids will have trips to the ER.

My rule of thumb is if it's too far out of town to get a pizza delivered, it's too far out.

I grew up in a suburb and always thought I wanted to live in the city so I went to college in one. I hated living in the city and discovered I am definitely a suburban girl. Well actually I am more of a live on the beach / on an island girl but I love suburban living too since that is what I actually know.

I grew up in the suburbs, and currently live there with my boyfriend, and now he's looking to buy a house in more urban-suburbia, but still suburbia...  but all the same, I LOVE the urban life!  I lived downtown for 2 years, and really really miss that!  Yes it was expensive.  Yes it could be a little loud.  And yes it amazing!  I walked everywhere, and so miss that.  Plus being able to go out and not worry about driving home or catching a cab or whatever - so worth it.  I was so happy there, had an amazing apartment...  why did I leave again?  Oh yeah, for a boy.  I wish he would consider moving to a downtown condo, but at least he's moving closer to where you can actually feasibly take public transportation!

I lived in the city all through college and once I started to get that "settling down" feeling close to graduation and when we got engaged, I couldn't wait to get the eff out of there. We are now proud suburbanites and we love it haha. Our city friends think we're nuts but whatever.
