Stevie Nicks torturing me with her version of Silent Night - i would rather listen to nails being scratched down a blackboard... oh wait, it does sound like nails being scratched down a blackboard!
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sFxxQnhT5XQ
I can't stand "White Christmas." Every rendition I've ever heard has been dreadfully slow, overly orchestrated, elevator-esque, and depressing. *cringe*
Grandma Got Run Over by a Reindeer--it makes me feel so bad for her!
Everytime I hear the new Justin Bieber Christmas songs that are playing on the radio I change the station lickety-split.
"Santa Baby". I cannot stand when grown women speak in baby voices, and singers usually sing this song in a baby-ish way. it makes me want to punch them.
@janie-janie: Ohhh...I forgot about that one! I have to concur. That one also makes me want to stick Q-Tips waaay too far into my ears in hopes of bursting my ear drums. Yuck.
I third "The Christmas Shoes" -- I don't think I've ever hated a song as much as I hate that song. And it's not because it's sad or makes me cry (it doesn't). I just think the guy is a terrible singer and that the song is overplayed and annoying.
That horrible donkey song!! It drives me nuts.
@Miss Sorbet: When I was a kid, my dad used to whistle songs and I'd have to guess them. Whenever I didn't know what it was I'd guess "Little Drummer Boy" because I didn't know the song. Even if it was like the 5th time in a row that I had guessed it. Now it's one of my favorites-- both for the memory and for the lyrics. :)
Christmas Shoes is depressing as anything, and pure commercial schmaltz, which is why I generally end up both cursing AND blinking back tears at some point.
There's nothing wrong musically with "Baby, It's Cold Outside" -- and in fact, some really lovely vocalist duos have covered it -- but the lyrics have always creeped me out. Gentlemen, when a woman says she has to go for the night, you see her out of your place and tell her you had a lovely time, not, "It's cold outside/you're beautiful/your lips are so kissable/don't hold out on me!"
@ChaiAnkh99: AGREED. I didn't want to be mean, but I honestly think it's the most horribly-written song ever. The lyrics are just awful.
@village_skeptic: Then you give her a drink that makes her ask "what's in this?" It's a catchy song, but totally about date rape, lol.
I second, third, fourth the Christmas Shoes song. I effing hate that song.
@reginaphalange: I think some of my recent disgust towards the song is that somehow, someone decided that it was appropriate for fourth graders to sing at our school Christmas program. Considering I teach at a Catholic school, I was APPALLED. I think it's been changed after some outcry, but yeah.
Grandma Got Runover By a Reindeer, Mommy Kissing Santa or whatever that is, and most stupid pop Christmas songs. Like stupid Destiny's Child Christmas songs, or anything by Christina Aguilera.
or anything by Christina Aguilera.
heheeheh - i feel like sending her a memo that says honey we know you can hit those notes, you just dont have to hit them all. the. time. :)
@Mrs Sarah McK: Yeah, during an epic round of Christmas cookie baking one year, I kept hearing different versions on the radio, and so I started to make up other lyrics...
I'll call 911/Baby it's cold outside
Don't make me take out my gun/Baby it's cold outside...
@peaches13: Wow. Awful.
If you think that's bad, how about this horrible (non-Christmas) song? It was actually written by a Christian band in the 80s, but they recorded it with a 6 year old.
@eloping: I want to say the same thing to Mariah Carey. I can't stand her version of O Holy Night when she starts screeching higher than even dogs can hear.
@village_skeptic: Your lyrics made me laugh.
@reginaphalange: I managed to listen to about 15 seconds on that song before I had to close the window.
@Mrs Sarah McK: My roommate in college used to play it in our dorm as a joke. I always thought it was some radio station parody of "Heal the World" or songs in that vein. I was SHOCKED to look it up and realize it was a real song written by a Christian band. Way worse than Christmas Shoes, both music- and content-wise.
Christmas Shoes - it's one reason why suicide rates increase during the holidays
Santa Baby
Elvis - sorry but I can't get into his music, especially the Christmas stuff
Christmas stuff that is supposed to be funny but tries too hard (Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer, 12 Pains of Christmas, etc)
Do They Know It's Christmas
Mariah Carey
Wonderful Christmastime
I love Christmas music but there is a fair amount that I can't stand to listen to
Go Tell it on the Mountain.
seriously, it doesn't sound like a Christmas song and I don't like it at all.
@kala, forgot about that one. The lyrics definitely detail the Christmas story from the Bible but it's nowhere near as good as other carols.
@Ember78: yea, it's biblical, that's definitely not what I have against it. It just sounds like a kids song. I think I've heard too many bad choirs try to spice it up into a white gospel song where it's repeated 87 times. It just gets on my nerves.
I agree about a lot of Mariah Carey's stuff. She has a great voice, she just doesn't seem to be able to stay on one note for longer than half a second. The songs become more about her voice than about the lyrics or music or anything else.
I dislike pretty much all Christmas music besides Santa Baby and the Nightmare Before Christmas songs lol.
That song that goes:
"Last Christmas, I gave you my heart, the very next day, you gave it away."
I'm really sorry if anyone is in love with it, BUT, it gets stuck in my head so badly that it takes DAYS to get out. Some versions sound like it's saying 'I gave you my fart" and it just sends me over the edge. When it comes on the radio I could just SCREAM.
ANY variation sung by pop/mainstream singers. I hate them.
Classics all the way.
@soyjoy222: "Last Christmas" by Wham. I'm with you on that one.
If you grew up in Germany and listened to the radio, you would hear it once every hour from October until New Years.

Haters gonna hate...
I love Christmas music just as much as the next person, but when I hear the following, I want to cut my eardrums out with a sharp rusty knife:
