I wouldn't *not recommend* them. They aren't great, and they can be subject to more delays than the bigger airlines b/c they rent their gates rather than own them. But that's their biggest downside. If you have a good airfare and you don't mind the higher potential for delay, book them. It's not like the legacy carriers are so much better these days. Just be prepared for the possibilty of inconvenience and knowing the airline has fewer options than other carriers.
we had a really awful experience with spirit airlines. we booked a flight last year that they ended up rescheduling THREE times (in the months leading up to the trip), including an overnight layover in one airport, a different return date, and adding a second connection on our return--that was 30 mintues long--we definitely would have missed the flight! their changes were going to cost us alot more in extra hotel rooms, and plus we lost any confidence we would actually get to our destinations. we ended up getting a refund and rebooking on another airline. it was $100 more but definitely worth it. i will never book with spirit again.

Can't stand them. They nickeled and dimed you before the major airlines did. I was on a flight of theirs that had to switch terminals and gates at the last minute and it took forever to get my luggage. Their webite stunk, couldn't get a seat online or pay for my luggage costs. this was in Nov. 2007.
My FMIL used them to fly out to see her other son. I don't think she had any complaints. I don't like them because they always send me offers for deals on flights, but they are never available. They also tax you on what the flight should have been before the discount (that may be all airlines).
HORRIBLE~!!!! Not worth the savings. Particularly on your honeymoon. I was delayed for hours, maybe even 24 hours in FLL once. They only have a few planes so, if you are delayed just forget about enjoying your day.
Worst airline experience ever! 6Am flight was so delayed I missed my Spirit connecting flight to the Cayman Islands. So they put me up in a hotel in Ft Lauderdale OVERNIGHT- yeah, it was so disgusting (and I did not feel safe) that I had to book a different hotel and pay for it myself. I later looked it up- they put us up in one of the 30 DIRTIEST hotels in the US. I called to complain- they only offered me a $25 credit. DO NOT USE THEM!

I am looking for cheap airfare to St. Thomas, and the best deal I have found is on Spirit Airlines. I've seen some bad reviews about them though. Have any of you had any experiences with Spirit Airlines? Would you recommend/not recommend them? Thanks!
