Let’s say there’s a couple plus an individual who are all going on vacation. Individual does have to pay for a plane ticket to go on trip (couple does not), but couple will be doing all the driving in their car. They rent a 2 bedroom house. Couple stays in one bedroom and individual in the other room.
Would you split the cost of the rental house by bedroom (ie. couple pays 50%, individual pays 50%)?
Would you split it three ways by person (ie. couple pays 66%, individual pays 33%)?
I just want to see what most people do.

based on what you’ve said, I voted 50-50…since you don’t have to pay utilities AND you’re doing the driving (will you be driving the individual as well?) I think 50-50 is fair.
However, I don’t know your relationship with the person, their financial situation, or if they’d get upset that you want to go 50-50 since you didnt have to pay for airfare.

I would split it up per person (so each paying 1/3).
When my SO and I were living in an apartment with a roommate, that’s what we did.

The plane ticket and car is irrelavant, but if the individual will be getting a ride with the couple I would expect him/her to chip in and pay for gas. But any rental home/hotel room/etc should be split by heads imo like a roommate would.

I vote 50/50. If the spouse of the couple in question wasn’t going, both bedrooms would still be occupied. I to me, it should be 50/50.

Individual will be shuttled around by couple. The whole trip only exists so the individual can experience a vacation.
When individual and one person of the couple have been on trips before (sans spouse), everything is 50/50, so some sort of splitting will be expected I’m sure (versus someone paying everything) as starfish mentioned. This is the first time the spouse is joining on a trip.
Sorry to be so ambiguious!

sienna76: I would split it by person (66/33), however if the couple is covering the individuals flight cost (even with airmiles or whatever), I would do 50/50.

I would split it by person, because I think that’s only fair.

Looks like per person is the most acceptable method
