I don't think I'm going to do anything really obvious, but I am not a very design-oriented person (so this whole wedding color thing eludes me in general) and am probably going to have green as one of my wedding colors. It's the color of my eyes and my engagement ring... but more importantly of the J-E-T-S JETS JETS JETS!
My dad's brothers are all planning on wearing Green Bay Packers ties to my wedding, and I'm going to bring my cheesehead for a picture with them. I'm really excited about that photo!
Fi and i are both sports fanatics, I also have a Detroit Tigers garter set. It's super cute, i can't wait to wear it!!
While I'm not incorporating anything sports related into my wedding, it was a requirement that the wedding not be held during football season! I'm not giving up my weekend of game watching (both college and pro) when there are weekends available before the season starts!
So, we didn't do this, but I had to share! A friend of mine got married during the 2008 World Series, and the Phillies were playing. She had rally towels that had her date and "Go Phillies" that we swung around as they were introduced. They wore their Phillies jerseys over their dress and tux for a few photos, and lucky for them, the game was delayed due to rain until 10pm. At that point, TVs were rolled into the reception area. Very cool since the Phillies did win the World Series that year! Their friends also called the local news stations and we were all on the 7pm news that night! Such a fun wedding!
i went to ohio state and have an obsession with ohio state football. i now live in texas. i interviewed wedding bands based on their willingness to play 'hang on sloopy" (the O-H-I-O version..its like, our rock song) at my wedding in texas. :)
oh and we're considering having buckeys on the dessert table if i can find someone to make them.
andddd i'm such a big football fan that i would have never had my wedding on a college football saturday =p
@blondeeebuckeye I am currently working on my master's at osu but live in upstate ny and we are def. playing hang on sloopy at the wedding! And I love buckeyes!!!!!! They have really easy recipes to make them online, they aren't that difficult to make yourself and could pass them out as your favors!
I went to a wedding a few weeks ago where the colors were orange & purple (Clemson Tigers colors) and the mascot showed up to get the dancing started.
The Tiger does pushups at games for every score, so I'll probably have him show up to do some pushups for my reception exit ;-)
and @blondeeebuckeye, it's a good thing you aren't having a game day wedding, because I would probably be standing up with you... checking my blackberry for scores.
@ entangled...so happy there's another Jets fan!! the first thing i bought for my wedding was my jets garter. my family are all New York team fans, but FI is from South Jersey so he, along with all his friends and family, are Philadelphia fans. I'm a huge Jets fan so I always go head to head with them all. So at the reception I am having the DJ play Frank Sinatra's New York, New York, at which point I will throw on my Jets jersey over my dress!! its big enough to not mess up my hair! and I have told some family and friends to sneak in a NY team jersey as well so we can all be obnoxious and sing in our NY gear!! It should be fun :)
@upstatebroad---yeah my mom has offered to make them, but we will see if it happens :) i don't trust myself to make 120 buckeyes the week of the wedding! but i think everyone would LOVE them...and i also like knowning there are other people who arent getting married in ohio who understand my demand to have hang on sloopy played at the wedding :)
@juhneenee---and i would be asking you for score updates. this is why you are my bridesmaid :)
I don't want any USC trojan stuff in the wedding, though we're both enormous fans. If I had the money, we'd have included a 10-piece from the band to play at the reception. If someone had given me a USC garter to wear, I would've done it though we're not have a garter toss. I gave one to a friend and she loved it.
One of the nice things about having a wedding in the summer is that we're not competing with any major sporting events - especially so this year with the Blackhawks-Canadiens series; game 4 on Friday, game 5 on Sunday, wedding Sat night... so lucky! It would be immensely difficult to have a wedding during football season or March Madness for us...
We didn't incorporate sports teams into the wedding per se, but they do come up in our vows :)
We are doing a hockey themed garter toss and I am wearing a Leafs garter as a surprise for my new hubby!
I did a post on it yesterday here and there is a pic of my garter too!
@Krista - that's awesome! You're lucky your guy is only an Eagles fan... mine likes the Patriots! It's awful, but I was so happy when Baltimore crushed them in the playoffs this year.
oh no...I could never marry a Patriots fan :) Although I do despise the Eagles..I went to college in Philly and know how obnoxious their fans are! he's starting to like the Jets more cuz of the people they are bringing in, so maybe i can convert him! maybe not!
My bf and his entire family are HUGE University fo Florida Gator fans... so we plan to use variations of their colors Orange and Blue. Also, my dad (who decided to go back to school a few years ago) has been accepted to go to UF to get his bachelors degree so it holds all kinds of good memories for our families and us.
We are thinking about naming our tables after Chargers players, like Table 43 Sproles. It wouldn't have lightening bolts or anything, just be a subtle nod.
We are also probably going to play the Chargers kick off song for our Grand Entrance.
Last - our new last name will be the same as one of the players, so we are going to have a pic of us in matching Jerseys at the card table.
We actually are missing a game for the wedding, but it's only preseason...
@Brianne - Go Bruins! : )
While I'm not a major sports fan, DH is. So, his first rule was no fall wedding so it doesn't interrupt football season.
My garter set was San Diego Chargers - my something blue and a surprise for DH.
His grooms cake was the North Carolina State Wolfpack wolf. He picked it out and insisted on it being "NC State Red" velvet.
And, because I'm originally from Tennessee, they played "Rocky Top" which is UT's song.
@ bloneebuckeye: My FI and I are OSU grads now living in California. I can't believe I didn't think of Hang on Sloopy! Totally going to have that played.
We are giving away "A pair of buckeyes from a pair of Buckeyes." My mom is flying out here early to make them, and estimates it will take about a day and a half for 250 (two for each person). If you have a little extra cash, though, any decent candy maker could do it.
we went to rival schools, so to keep things nice we didn't have any sports at our wedding.
I'm from Boston, and I'm still debating whether I want Wally the Green Monster (the Red Sox's mascot) to show up at my wedding. "Sweet Caroline" is definitely getting played. (It is sang during the 7 inning stretch.) Besides that, there won't be any other Boston sport team appearances. I don't want sports decorations/colors, and I won't be doing a garter toss. (If I was, I would def get a cute sports one though!)
Yay Ohio State!! We are having (hopefully) a cookie bar for favors and plan to have buckeyes made for that. I will most likely be wearing an Ohio State garter, hehe, but don't tell FI
! In addition, we hope to take pictures on the campus (we're having our wedding in Columbus)! We are both college sports fanatics and plan to have NCAA theme for our table numbers as well and incorporating some of our favorite college football teams as our table numbers! There will probably be more sports-related things, but that is all we have planned for now, lol.
I am a HUGE Boston fan but specifically Celtics! We got engaged at one of the playoff games last month and I want to come out to the beginning of their entrance song - Phil Collins In the Air but just the beginning where its instrumental and says "I've been waiting for this moment all my life" GOOOO CELTICS!!! BEAT L.A.!

So this post is for all of the bride to be sports fans or women with FIs who are incorporating your favorite sports team into the wedding. I love the Buffalo Sabres and plan on wearing a sabres garter that is blue and yellow....this checks off my something blue while letting me bring a piece of what I love secretly into the wedding.
Being from NY I know a lot of friends that have incorporated Yankee memorabilia into their wedding through all the groomsmen wearing hats or Yankeeing, if that's a word, out their cakes.
I was wondering if there are any other brides incorporating their favorite sports teams into their wedding?
