I'm not going with a sports theme, but I am choosing to get married at a ballpark. When we took a tour of the venue the coordinators were giving us some sports themed ideas. Does the couple have a favorite team? You could decorate with team colors. Another idea is to use a bed of wheat grass as centerpieces and maybe add a few baseballs or other sports equipment on top. If you can find some vintage looking equipment I feel like that will make it look a bit more elegant. I also like the idea of using pictures of the couple attending games, perhaps making them b&w in nice silver frames. For our reception instead of regular table numbers we are going to take pictures at different areas around the ballpark with different numbers, retired numbers, jerseys, etc. I attached a pic that my coordinator sent me that was taken at a bah mitzvah. Hope that helps. Good luck and please post pics of the final results, I would definitely like to see it!! :)
I love the idea of Cracker Jacks for favors - don't underestimate how excited adults can get over food that reminds them of good times/they don't get often. I think that would be the perfect treat! While I would laugh at the fake baseball cards or autographed ball, they would only collect dust after the party.
For tables, I like that idea of using photos of the couple doing or watching sports, maybe you can alternate between their favorite teams (think college, Baseball, football, basketball, high school mascots could even be fun) and favorite sports - 5 of each. If you are lucky they are each loyal to a pair of rivals and you could play on that, maybe making the BMs sit at his favorite team's table while the GM sit at hers? This may not work for everyone but I'm from Red Sox territory and a good friend married a serious Yankees fan so her dad had some fun with him at the rehersal.
Thanks ladies! Love the ideas. Keep them coming.
And I apologize for the gobbledy gook in the post...it won't let me go back and edit it out!
Do they have a favorite sport? It will prob make your decisions less confusing if you just pic one sport & elaborate on that. Say for example, their favorite sport is baseball. You could name each table after a various fields, or even after their favorite baseball players.
For centerpeices, keep it simple & fun, esp since its the RD it will be cute to be more relaxed. You could have baseball cupcakes, which would be really & simple to make & decorate, and display them on a simple stand for each table (I love the simple stands that you can make by turning a small bowl upside down & gluing a plate to the top, very simple & inexpensive. AND these cupcakes would serve as favors too! Or, you could have buckets of peanuts. You could use regular tin buckets, fill with peanuts, and slap a team sticker on it (be sure to have a way for them to dispose of the shells though :) )
For little cute extras you could use white cardstock, create your own format & print out "baseball cards" using the couples pictures.
This is just an example using baseball, but just think about the things that are usually related to one particular sport and go from there! Good Luck!!
Those baseball cupcakes are AWESOME!! Love them.
I SO wish I could just focus on one sport, but that won't really work. Groom: baseball, water polo, soccer, swimming. Bride: football, ballet, gymnastics, dancing, and running. I don't want to pick a single sport b/c I want to make sure that both of them feel represented...does that make sense?

Hi hive!! I'm having a bit of difficulty with coming up with some fun and creative ideas. I'm REALLY hoping you can help - this website seems to have some of the most creative people on the planet! Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions...
<span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">My MIL hosting the rehearsal dinner for the upcoming wedding of her son (my BIL) to his fiance. <span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">They are getting married in Chicago and are having the rehearsal at some famous sports-related restaurant...so there's a "Sports" theme. The bride and groom are both are sports fanatics and really athletic, so it's perfect for them. However, she's having a really hard time with this and has asked for my help. We need to come up with some decorations and centerpieces for the place. She also wants to do a favor for the guests. I know it's probably not typical at a rehearsal, but her mind is set on it, so we're doing it. I think there will be around 10 tables and possibly around 60 people attending the rehearsal.
<span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Her idea was to put galvanized buckets (with sports teams printed on them) on the tables filled with various sports Nerf balls (i.e. baseballs, footballs, soccer balls, etc.). I wasn't so sure I liked this idea, since I think that it looked cheap and seemed like a waste (what is she going to do with all those balls?). Anyway, I was thinking more along the lines of doing each table a different sport or team that the couple was interested in...maybe have pictures of the two of them at each table attending games or something. But I don't think we have enough sports/pictures/teams for 10 tables. So, I'm still in need of suggestions... I've done searches online, but can only seem to find stuff for kids birthday parties, which definitely isn't as sophisticated as we need. The bride has impeccable taste and I want this to be as "stylish and refined" as you can make sports stuff.
<span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">As for favors, my MIL was thinking of doing something like bags of peanuts and cracker jacks. That's cute, but I was thinking of maybe doing real baseballs "autographed" by the bride and groom. Stupid? Maybe have some fake baseball cards printed with their picture on it and "stats" about the couple. Too cheesy?
<span style="font-size: 7.5pt; color: black; font-family: "Verdana","sans-serif";">Please let me know if you have any ideas. I'm open to everything!! Help!!
