I found some places with lower prices, but our guest list is only 100 or so. There is one place that I can't remember the name of the place, but there is a building/ballroom that caters to weddings in midtown that I don't think was quite as expensive as others and had awesome city views. I'm pretty sure it was on the knot's list of venues.
Are you maybe talking about the Coronado Ballroom? www.thecoronado.com/weddings
I hope it's more affordable, like you mentioned--it looks expensive! The Knot didn't list any price ranges, but I contacted them for pricing information. Thanks for you help!
It was actually the rialto, I just found it after asking my FI.
It was a bit more than we wanted to spend, but I think it was less than others.
Check out ProjectWedding.com for reception venues and reviews.
Rialto you have to bring in your own caterer, which can be a good or bad thing (depending on who you choose), but it is a great venue! I'm not sure if they have preferred vendors or not. Patty Long has reasonable prices and I would recommend them.
The Coronado Ballroom is a great spot, but they have a $20,000 minimum on the weekends (if it isn't that, then it is $15,000).
Windows on Washington (www.wowbanquets.com) has some great options (it's where I am having my reception). Their other venue, Windows off Washington is actually in the same building as the City Museum and has the same feel as the City Museum. They are up front about their pricing (which is all on their website).
Most places downtown have a $10,000 - $15,000 minimum on weekends and with a guest list of 300, you might want to find somewhere that has all inclusive pricing. Off the top of my head I can't think of any more reasonably priced venues in the city, but if something comes up, I'll come back and post!
Hey Ladies,
Have you checked out outdoor or rural reception sites?
I'm getting married September 19, 2009 at a small place outside of Hermann, MO.
Here's the link: www.littlepineylodge.com . It's much more affordable and you get to have the site for the entire weekend. You don't have to rush to get everything out that night and you can work on set up/decorating even the night before. Much better than the time constraints on a lot of the St. Louis city venues.
Here's a link to their craigslist ad: http://stlouis.craigslist.org/for/1269499317.html Their prices start at about 2500 and you can add on the cabins for your wedding part to stay at. I'm so stoked about my upcoming wedding.
Good luck with finding your venue!
If you haven't booked your venue yet, be sure to check out saint louis university. they only charge 400 for their rooms (and they are gorgeous - we're having ours there, and they have about 8 to choose from). plus, you get the room for 24 HOURS. keep in mind that you may have to rent a dance floor and get liability insurance, - but, it's way cheaper than anything else I could find. and, I was on a tight budget. you have to use their caterer, but we did a tasting and the food is amazing.
Oh, and the Jewel Box in Forest Park is gorgeous for a ceremony. Won't have to spend a dime on flowers for the ceremony!
Hey guys! We ended up with the Polish Heritage Center....it's a beautiful facility, and they allow us to bring in our own alcohol and caterer, so I think we'll save boatloads of money. There aren't any pics of it on the Internet, but I did a blog post about it here. Thank you to everyone for you help and suggestions!
Glad you could find a location. Let us know if you need additional help with other vendors!
hey check out the hyatt as a venue!!! They are new in the wedding ceremony business and prices are affordable!!! I am getting married there friday july 2 (hello city of STL fireworks)
here's my blog, I have a picture of the venue....

Sorry, there are no users yet.
I just got engaged and have started checking prices in St Louis....oh my goodness! I just can't believe how much everything costs. I love the architecture hall at the City Museum, but it's 3 grand just for the venue rental, and you have to rent everything. The Sheldon is gorgeous, but their venue fee is $2500 (I think), there's not a lot of parking, and you have to use their (expensive) preferred vendors. Forest Park is out, that costs a fortune.
I just can't fathom spending more than $15,000 on one dinner, especially in the current econonmic climate. I'd rather spend the money on a down payment for a house. I'm really trying to avoid the generic reception hall, but I don't see how I can afford anything else. To make it more complicated, we have over 300 people on the guest list, and we don't want to do anything outside (I have allergies and St Louis weather is unpredictable at best!). Any advice on affordable gems in the St Louis area?
