I've never been to a sandals resort before but I've been to both, Bahamas and st. Lucia and my preference is definitely st. Lucia. imho, it's so much prettier and more"unique" than Bahamas and there it's a lot more to see and do.
I am going to Sandals Emerald Bay for my HM in July! I chose it because it's their newest and nicest resort...it's on one of the outer islands, away from the touristy, hustle and bustle of Nassau...very secluded, very private with amazing views. I am SO excited!
@Macie11: DH and I spent our honeymoon in the Bahamas and LOVED it. With that said, we're hoping to take a vacation in the next year or two and want to go to St. Lucia.
Here are my thoughts on the Sandals in the Bahamas. If you want to relax and not be very active (like exploring the island), I would say the Bahamas are perfect. Sandals has a private island that is amazing. DH and I spent every moment we could over there. It literally pushed the honeymoon from great to unbelievable. While we want to visit St. Lucia, we keep considering the Bahamas because of the private island.
We ended up splurging and got a butler level room in the Villas at the back of the resort. This was the best decision we made for the whole trip. We were there right at the end of Hurricane Tomas and while the rest of the resort was dealing with windy/cool temps, we were at the back of the resort having a blast in the swimming pool (that the rest of the resort didn't seem to know about). On the days the water was calm and we could visit the island, our butler reserved us one of the palapas on the beach, which was fantastic beings I fry if I'm in the sun for more than 5 minutes. The butler also tracked us down whereever we were to serve us drinks and snacks. We were definitely pampered!
We loved the ambiance of the resort and thought the staff was great. If given the chance, we would love to go back. We would just like to go to another island first.
The only place I've been to in the Bahamas was Nassau and I did not like it at all. The town wasn't all that great, and we were constantly bombarded by children begging from us. But I bet if you stay in a resort, and don't spend much time in Nassau, it's much better. I was there as part of a cruise and went to Nassau for the day.
We decided to do our honeymoon in St. Lucia and Barbados. In St. Lucia we're going to stay at Sandals' Grande St. Lucian, in a butler room, which I'm super excited about.
I would maybe think about what you plan to do on your honeymoon and then decide which island/resort fits better. FI and I are staying in a room where we'll have a private plunge pool and hot tub and we figure we'll mostly stay there, plus maybe a visit or 2 to the beach, and maybe an excursion day to do a boat cruise and see some more of the island. So for us, having the great room with our own outdoor area is perfect.
Oh, and also take a look into how you'd get to either island. For us it turned out that getting to St. Lucia was almost impossible the day we wanted to, so we're going to Barbados first. I think the Bahamas are generally pretty easy to get to though.
Thanks bees!! We are definitely wanting our alone and romantic time but we are very active people and would like activities to do as well. Maybe a tour, snorkeling, horse back riding, night life, etc.
Which do yall think would be best for this?
as i said before, if you want to do tours/snorkeling/hiking/etc i really think st. Lucia is a better choice.
Going to stay in St. Lucia i did hours or research on all sandals locations and St lucia was the best!
La toc is quieter relaxed while grande st lucia is more newlyweed party couples.
My fiance and I went to The Bahamas on our cruise last March and were both very disappointed. We thought it was pretty dirty. We are going to Sandals Grande in St. Lucia and have read really good reviews about it. We are active people also and want to see more than the resort and I've read of plenty to do!
St. Lucia is the more "romantic" of the 2 destinations for sure! However, there are more than just Sandals resorts there. Think about what it is that you're hoping to experience while on your honeymoon (e.g., a smaller property to spend more alone time together; or a place that has more of a focus on health & wellness & includes daily spa treatments & exercise classes; or just a place to kick-back with some cocktails & soak up the sun.). There's something for everyone in St. Lucia.
