@Misstnt: I registry stalked like none other and even up until the wedding there was hardly anything completed off the list! We did get a good amount of things when we got back from our honeymoon but not nearly as much as I had expected. We got a lot of cards and checks at our wedding, but there were a LOT of people who did not get us anything. I am not complaining (gotten past that!) but its just a warning to brides-to-be….dont expect gifts! Just be thankful for what you get and move on….because a lot of people will not even get you a card!

@PitBulLover:

People didn’t give a gift?!?!?!  I’ve never heard of that, but I guess it’s good to be prepared for….

@NYE Gal: Yes, LOTS of people did not give anything!! I think my husband was more let down about it than I was. That’s only because I had been on the hive and seen other bees post about guests not giving anything….so I knew to expect it!

@NYE Gal: I think this is actually pretty common.  At my wedding, I noticed it much more with OOT guests – probably because of their travel expenses.

@PumpkinSpiceChai:  I’m really shocked by that.  I guess I factor in my travel expenses when I reply to a wedding, but I don’t let it affect my gift amount.  If I decided I can’t afford the travel I send a card with a cheque wishing them the best.

For both my wedding and BIL/SIL’s wedding, gifts were given at the shower, and the wedding was mostly money. The exceptions to that were some of my MIL’s family that lived a ways away, who had MIL buy a gift to wrap. Almost everyone gave a gift of some sort, although I really didn’t care too much. I would have been more disappointed if people hadn’t given a card or signed our guest book photo frame.

I was thinking we would get a lot of cash gifts also because not much had been bought off the registry but it was really weird everyone went and bought gifts the week and a half before the wedding, the wedding day and the couple weeks after. Most things were delivered to our house and came this past month- since they waited so late to order things. But it was fun to see things keep rolling in. I wasn’t expecting it. My mom mentioned to me that it is common for people to still send a gift up to a month after the ceremony.

My wedding was last weekend, and I have already seen some gifts that were purchased off of the registry after the wedding. There were also some guests that did not give gifts, and I do not think that these guests will give a gift in the future. My wedding was out of town for nearly everyone, and I know that travel expenses were difficult for quite a few of my friends. Our wedding was in an expensive city with expensive hotel rooms! I am just happy that all of my friends were able to come, and I do not expect a gift from those who went out of their way to drum up the funds to just be able to come.
