I think its only natural, although I used to make fun of my sister when she got married for doing it. I was just reading about a website you can sign up for that will help you limit online addictions. Basically you sign up and type in the sites you want limited, and then specify how often you are allowed to check them. So if you want, you can tell it not to let you back for a few hours.
I'm guilty.
It used to be sporadic, but it has goten to be daily. My first shower is in a few weeks, so the closer it got, the more regular my checking got.
I'm guilty too!!! My husband and I used to check the site together haha. But there's still the surprise element because we don't know who bought what.
I definitely stalk it, especially since my shower invites have gone out. I use the "I am adding/deleting" excuse as well, ladies, and that is all it is, an excuse! Yes, I think of things I want/need at random times and go to add it before I forget, but I also check all the numbers to see what has been purchased lately. My FI thinks it is ruining the surprise (he also doesn't want us to use any of our wedding gifts until after the wedding), but I can't help myself! I have always been nosey like that!
I must confess... I just checked mine again. Is anyone else running into the "RSVP's have come in, but nothings been purchased" issue? I have a worried feeling that people aren't going to get me gifts from my registry, which makes me sad cuz we REALLY need some new sheets.
How soon/late did people start buying stuff off your registries? Do you get an email is something is sent to you (vis USPS or UPS)?
So glad this little secret is out... I'm guilty! I stalked before my bridal shower, I'll stalk before the wedding, and I'll probably stalk afterwards (for no good reason at all, just to keep looking at all the neat things on my list!). I think as long as you're still really gracious and grateful when you receive the gifts, it doesn't matter if you've seen ahead of time that they've been purchased.
Ha - I thought I was the only one too!!! Wedding and family stuff are getting more stressful, so sometimes I'll check the registry and the fact that someone has actually bought the Dirt Devil is a nice little reassuring spot in my day.
This probably won't help... Amazon has a feature under "Add Gifts to Your Registry" called "Showcase Registries" that shows you couples in a similar geographical area or with similar tastes. It makes it very easy to add those items directly to your own registry. I was definitely, um, inspired by some of the showcases.
:::raises hand up high:::
My name is venusfueri, and I am a registry stalker. One registry is starting to get some action while another is very quiet and our third only has a few items so it's no matter with that one.
This actually got me thinking about showers in general - because my grandmother is coming up for my sister's graduation from college in May and can only be here for a few days, my mom planned the shower for the next day - it's no secret that I know about it. She had heard of showers where the bride is actually there from the start time, greeting the guests individually. When I asked what time do I go there (12 or 1) she jokingly said, "11:30 so you can help me setup!" All joking aside, I do not mind at all going there to help out setup and since it's ridiculously obvious that I know, is it a faux pas to have the bride there from the start?
I am a horrible actress (which is why I REALLY need to stop checking the "Thank You" notes manager on Macy's!) so my reaction is going to be highly ridiculous if I pretend to be surprised. Moreover, the invitations don't say anything along the lines of it being a surprise, but rather a "bridal luncheon."
Haven't registered yet, but I'm sure I will be a stalker....especially close to the shower/wedding.
Oh yes, I am stalking, way too often!!! My shower is in a week and a half, so I think that I am going to try to stop until then... maybe. ![]()
It is so fun to try to figure out who bought what!
I don't know how people dont stalk them. I think that the stalking is going to be more fun than actually receiving them. Its like a game trying to figure out who bought it, why they picked what they picked and whats going to be bought next.
I just found out this week that our first registry item has been "fulfilled"!! I'm so excited! Now I'm dying to know who got it!
I think for me it's like this great big checklist/wishlist, and I LOVE crossing things off my lists, so when something becomes "fulfilled" I just feel so great! However, I have awhile until my showers and only a few "fulfilled" items, and as I mentioned earlier, I still stalk regularly. It's just fun!!
Oh, I am so glad someone (lots of someones!) else has this "addiction"!!
I didn't even think about, 'til FI wanted to add something to our BB and Beyond registry, and BAM! Just like that, i saw "Fulfilled..." which led to 50bajillion checks on the registry! Invites have gone out, shower invites have gone out, so now i have multiple reasons to stalk!
